The spiritual home of North Wales biking — a legendary cafe perched at the very top of the Horseshoe Pass.
If you ride in North Wales, sooner or later you’ll end up here. The Ponderosa Café sits at the 417 m summit of the Horseshoe Pass (A542) and has been a gathering point for generations of motorcyclists — the sort of place where the car park is half the attraction.
Why bikers love it
A proper cafe menu — big breakfasts, bacon rolls, chips and mugs of tea
Huge parking area that fills with bikes on any decent weekend
Spectacular position with far-reaching views over the Dee Valley
The perfect start or finish to a North Wales loop
The Horseshoe Pass sweeps right up to the cafe’s door.
Getting there
Follow the A542 north out of Llangollen over the Horseshoe Pass — the cafe is at the summit, impossible to miss. From the Wrexham/Chester side, approach via Llandegla. Combine it with the Evo Triangle for a superb day’s riding.
Opening hours vary by season and weather — it’s an exposed mountain-top spot. Check current opening times before making a special trip in winter.
