Kawasaki ZX6R B1H 636 Review
Reviewed by Pope
Thought I'd kick off this bike review malarkey as no one else has yet
Picked up the Ninja 3 weeks ago and have just covered exactly 1000 miles in that time.
Before going to see the bike I'd decided I wanted a supersport 600 as my next bike.
Those that know me know I've had loads of bikes since passing my test 5 years ago.
Two Yamaha R1's, one original, one the latest
As well as an SRAD750 GSXR, a Kawasaki GPZ1000RX (old as me!) a ZX7R Ninja and an Aprilia RS250
And not forgetting most recently a shitter of a Slingshot GSXR 750......
Anyway I digress, back to the new 636!
I was hoping the extra 36cc over a standard 600 would make all the difference.
....I just didn't know how much of a difference!
First impressions was the noise
It came virtually as standard. Standard can, as well as pilot sports
I have a sticky tyre fetish so pilot sports had me a bit worried.
Anyway the airbox noise on the first run back from Newport was addictive and had me grinning like a loon.
Even on the standard can the thing roared
I'd imagine at pelican crossings it would suck small children in through the ram air scoop given the chance.
And the looks. Well looks are a personal thing, but I reckon it looks mean
Like a hornet (the wasp type not the gay honda)
Then I donned my leathers for the afternoon after picking it up as the weather was lovely.
Time to put it to a proper test.
Took it for a 200 mile ride with one of the boys who doesn't exactly hang about.
I was suprised how well the Michelins gripped to be fair.
Still needs some racetecs or supercorsas to bring out the best in it though!
Brakes are better than I will ever be.
The handling stood out though. Very light and agile (but anything is compared to that old slingshot)
Enough power to lift up on crests in 3rd gear. Will sit on the back wheel for as long as I have the skill to off the clutch in 2nd.
Leaving traffic lights in 1st also gets the front lifting
It badly needs a steering damper though!
Any rough road has it slapping its head and i get the impression it could slap me off if I didn't see it coming......
Have since put a stubby can on it, and the noise is awesome. A bit too loud if I'm honest as people can hear it coming. But on the over run, a peek in the mirrors at night sees plenty of fire coming out the back, together with lots of loud booms.
Good times
I feel that with teh ZX6 I can get the most out of it on the road, where as with the other 1000's I've ridden I never seem to be able to do them justice unless on track
First trackday on the new bike is a week tomorrow.
So i'll keep you all posted
