The Police
« on: January 22, 2011, 09:59:50 AM »
Hi
I am new here & have enjoyed reading the various forum headings.
Like every other biker I love riding my bike & have done for years. I know it is not the safest way of getting from A to B but I am prepared to accept the risks for the joy of riding. I try not to kid myself that I am better, faster or safer than anyone else I see on the road.
I do try & learn every time I get on the bike & have never yet got home without making lots of errors.
I am concerned that there are a lot of anti police  posts in the forum. Do we really think that the traffic police are there to persecute road users rather than try & keep us safe? I know there is some justification that Gatzos are cash collectors but I, for one, support the police in doing what is a very difficult job. They are the ones who see horrific crashes & have to tell the families involved.
Like nearly every other biker I often exceed the posted limits but slow down when I think plod is about. Maybe that thought has saved me a few times.
I was once pulled in on a motorway by an unmarked Volvo for exceeding 100 on a motorway. The officer gave me a ticking off, warned about the danger of excess speed & let me off.  That is my police good news story & I am sure lots of you out there have similar ones.
Why not post your police story here.
Couple of years ago I did a Bike Safe day which was fun & certainly showed me that Police motorcyclists are committed, enthusiastic bikers.
So come on let's hear about some good police experiences for a change

ummmmm .......
Well best I can say is when some T**t :taz knocked me off at a round about .. (''didn't see you, wasn't looking '') his excuse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the plod in the car 2 vehicals behind DID deal with it very well, was plesant, helpfull and sympathetic , And did sort out car driver,  but it took 8 months to sort out completely ...system itself though I think, not the police.
Always bad apples in every barrel ... just the plod often seem to have more than their share !!!
Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!

Are you secretly a Mr Plod.

Sorry got to ask.

Anyway here is my £0.02p worth.

If that camera stopped someone having a crash on a certain road then that certain person is crap and will probably have a crash some where else. Just like there replacing alot of roundabouts with Traffic Lights for the same reason, well if that dithering fool would have had one because of the roundabout and has not because there are now Traffic Lights then some where fearther down the road they will have a bump. Why? Cause there Crap.

Why do they have to spacificaly go after bikers which they do in places like the Beacons, ie: biker area, because there not pulling over cars up there. Also if someone decides to clown around a bit and there crap and have an accident the chances are on a bike you are only going to hurt or kill yourself. I did say chances are. In a car the chances are you will hurt others.

Well thats my thoughts.

Regarding the police it depends were you live.
The Taliban up north are the worse in my view,no telling off from them just a straight booking and try to find anything else they can book you with.
Yes I've been caught a few times by them, one time doing 69 on an open stretch of road they were hiding in the bushes for god's sake.

Another time in a built up area at 10.30pm i was doing 34 going down hill,no other soul about,it was Christmas period and he thought he could have a bag case here, was disappointed when no light was on the bag but still did me for speeding.
Sorry but i hate them with a vengeance,a##eholes the lot of them.
Yes i know there are speed limits and they do a difficult job but these days they seem to have lost any common sense and fairplay.

On a lighter note the best copper i met was in Scotland,i was driving out of Aberdeen on my way back to Wales in a hired car at 6.30 in the morning.
The road is a dual carrageway and i was bombing along well over a ton, road was dead but noticed a car far away behind me so i slowed down.
He eventually caught up with and pulled me over, first thing he said was good morning sir it's your lucky day with a smile on his face.
Anyway as the conversation continued he said again it's your lucky day,do you want me to show you how lucky you are,so of course i said yes, anyway he took me inside the car and showed me my speed at 94.5 mph and then he said do you now know how lucky you are, well I'll tell you he said.
I know you were doing well over a ton and if i had clocked you doing this you would have been fined £100 pound for every mile an hour over he said and a possible ban.
If i had clocked you at 95 mph you would have had to appear in person in court up here in Scotland he said, but because i clocked you at 94.5mph i can today give you 3 points and a £60 fine,so now do you know why it's your lucky day.
I smiled and didn't argue.
He asked me how long it took to get home, i told him and he was a bit surprised.
Anyway he told me that i should slow down on the motorways, try to keep it under 85mph and that i would not get pulled up then.
And to this day i don't exceed that speed on the motorways.
A good cop.

I think the biggest problem is that there are to many jobsworths about ,yes i have met a few good ones but the bad stories i here from other local bikers far outweighs the good ones .
After the problems i had when i was recently rammed of the road by a driver in a large van ,he got away with DCA because the police failed to do their job properly ,even though there was cctv and 2 independant witness statements showing the accident (i have a written apology from the police force involved) personally they can all F***k off .

More interested in lining their pockets with motorcyclist sponsored overtime than anything else. Have had the odd one who uses a bit of discretion but few and far between..

I know the Police do a difficult job and telling a family that their loved one has died can never be easy, it's not just bikers involved in these incidents so why target the bikers? I know we are more vulnerable than other road users but I believe when your time is up it is up no matter what you are doing or where you are.

Anyway ... I was having an argument in my car with an Audi driver who cut me up. Every time I tried to overtake he accelerated and when I dropped in behind him he slowed down. This went on for a few miles and I got pissed off and dropped her a gear and booted it. Unfortunately I was in such a bad mood I didn't ease off once he had disappeared in my mirrors. Just calming down when my whole world lit up blue and fell out my arse. I pulled in straight away and got out the car. First thing he said (with a big smile on his face)  was so you are not going to argue with me then? I said no whats the point?  long story short, he knew I was doing well over a ton initially but only managed to clock me at 94. Said as I had been nice and it was nearly christmas he would give me 3 points and £60 now don't do it again. There are some nice police officers out there but I think like with most things, you only hear the bad stories.

Good and bad plod - just like in any walk of life. I know quite a few in a social capacity and also have had to work closely with some others in the past who on the whole were ok guys.

Alot of the issues we suffer from with the police are down to red tape and bureaucracy that makes them work with one hand tied to their bollocks. That said, there are jobsworths out in the force - and they tend to be attracted to Traffic units for some reason. :scratch The annoying part about it is the way traffic are used as cash collectors, from already tax raped motorists, in the name of safety for such minor things as number plates, exhausts and visors ect.

Based on my own experiences... THEY'RE ALL BENT and in it only for themselves and what they can get out of it.

You have to be a sad, sad individual to join the force... I'd NEVER consider it... what, like handing out tickets to pensioners for driving with snow on their vehicles!

The Police... off with their heads, the fuc*ing lot of 'em. At least with the current Government spending cuts there'll be thousands of the fuc*ers joining the dole queue - most probably ending-up working at the DVLA, another Government sponsored snake pit.

Bastards!  :tap
