Is it possible for the text to maybe change color or number of messages in red maybe  on the selection bar top of page so we can see on PDA's or IPhone when we receive them.
(Does that make sense)

Yep!

When I view this site on my Blackberry if there are new threads in sections it has a red marker by the section name
