Was having a chat about welshbikers.co.uk with another couple of members this evening so thought i'd post a thread.

The thing with forums is that the only content here is user generated content.

So if you log in and click "new posts" and see nothing new, then you're put off posting.
The same happens to the next person and before you know it there are never any new posts and it gets shit

So do something about it!
Contribute!  If you've got something interesting to post then don't hold back, start a new thread
Even if it isn't popular at least you made an effort

Forums rely on users posting so get to it

Ok here's my contribution :innocent

Some people on the forum just come along to any old thread and don't actually add anything to the post for example just write:

 :i_agree  or +1

Without actually adding to the thread in the slightest.

I don't know why but it kinda annoys me when there are threads getting bumped with nothing in them except for the original post :scratch . I realise I am probably being grumpy and need this :chill_pill
I guess this leads to the question is it better to just put an :i_agree or just not reply at all? I personally tend not to reply unless I can add another opinion or (VERY OCCASIONALLY) offer advice :shocked

I have noticed there wasn't much going on with the forum recently but I have to be honest I haven't really posted any new threads myself for a while :oops

I still think there are to many topics, makes it hard to read through posts and also not sure on the right place to post things.

i agree with you pope.

Forums are based around members making their opinions known on every topic.

example, you meet in a pub, whether you are interested or not, usually you listen to someone and respond accordingly.

the difference on a forum is the power of choice.

As of late i have found it difficult to get on the forum to post. Lack of time mainly, although i try to check in as often as possible.

I am sure others are like me.

The question is, how to get a silent forum user, to post?
Jason Palmer - BIGJ - you are already greatly missed, RIP friend.

The question is, how to get a silent forum user, to post?

I'm guilty of this as I lurk more than post.

I do find that there is a morbid fascination on this forum for completely random 'biker down/RIP' threads which I personally find really bizzare, and I think it throws a very negative blacket over the whole tone of the forum. Similarly, there are too many 'fcuk the pigs/they're all out to get us/it's not fair/I should have a right to break the law threads. Too much biker victim mentality syndrome IMO. I struggle to contribute to these 'nodding dog' topics.

But this forum does have a pretty large group of close friends which is rare in online communities IMO. Things like rideouts and definately the rideout reports should be the main focus. This is the reason we ride motorcyles afterall.

So in summary, too much

and not enough

Sorry to be a bit negative, but I will try harder and post a bit more in future.

I guess I'm really guilty of lurking but have to admit to not minding someone sticking  :thumbsup or  :thumb_down or  :i_agree on any post I put, at least it means someone read it and was decent enough to let me know they had an opinion  :thumbsup
