1st man marshalling or designated marshalers?
« on: June 16, 2011, 09:56:57 AM »
As a 55 year old ride-out rookie :old, I've only been on two ride-outs so far. One had 1st man marshalling and the other, designated marshallers.

My question then would be, whats the pro's and con's of each? and which do you prefer.

My preference out of the two would be "1st man" it gives riders the feeling of envolvement, the one's who want to do it will get to the front anyway and vis-versa.

Ride safe.

You could have caterpillar. At say right turn no1 would wait somewhere safe until no 2 sees where he is going before moving off. No 2 waits for no 3 & so on. Advantage is that only no 1 needs to know the route.

Leapfrog is another way. This way no 1 stays until everyone has passed then moves on. Next junction no 2 does the same etc. Unfortunately everyone needs to know the route.
