The problem you have with people sending you video's is that the file sizes will be huge ,sometimes your server will shut off half way through so you wont get the full message ,receiving full res images is bad enough without video .
What about sending a password to people who want to upload then change it everyday ?

You could set up an FTP server. Some good free software like Filezilla..

I'm OK with you tube. I'm sure there must be someone on here that's a right wiz kid though!

I've got my own YouTube Channel that's been up since 2006 and upload views are at 448,000  :eek (mainly down to using certain keywords)  :thumbsup

I'm not too good with the customisation of the channel itself though it's quite complicated (or at least I think so anyway)  :scratch

Just subscribed to Welshbikers videos anyway.

Like JaseXT said maybe if people want to upload vids to email a password or something?

As said the problem is getting peeps videos. Depending on how this website is setup (storage space, bandwidth costs, technologies used) everyone has an an account (user), admins have more privilages. Could setup an area where users can upload video's to a certain directory, have a script running PHP, JAVA, ASP.Net etc that checks for a new file uploaded, copies to a seperate folder (where only admins have access) and deletes the original so users cannot see other users videos. Youtube admin can download videos and delete etc. Prob be too expensive via hosting company for bandwidth.

Option 2 setup an account with say photobucket, go pro for $2.99 / month or $25 / year. Unlimited storage images & videos, no bandwidth cost. only drawback is the login details there would only be 1 account (share details).

Option 3 find a user (youtube admin) with a static IP Address that has an unlimited package with their ISP and has a large spare HDD, setup an FTP server on their machine and either issue individual usernames/passwords (long time to setup) or just use the 1. If the user uses FTP software to upload their videos they'll be able to resume uploads if connection fails?

With a bit of luck if we get enough views YouTube will offer partnership and we'll start making some dosh which would be used to offset the cost of the hosting.

FTP idea sounds good. Could possibly only have a certain time frame to upload stuff if we don't have someone who can dedicate a machine? As for static IPs... even if they changed we'd be able to post the new IP on here for people to check. That would work, right?

[EDIT]: I'm going to see about getting my laptop set up as an FTP server tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Also possible with a none-static IP using a service called NO-IP, they have a free version where you register a free domain e.g. welshbikers.hopto.org on their website and download/install client software on FTP Host machine. If your IP changes the client software updates their online records and the domain name will still point to the FTP Host Machine.

OK, so my FTP set up didn't go as planned. I'll try the no-ip link, what's the latest word on this?
Do we have any vids waiting to be uploaded?

So just to check, you've got an FTP server set up, but can't connect to it externally? Have you tried connecting with your external IP address and port 21? (Daft question, but best to check  :tt )
