video camera advice
« on: July 09, 2011, 09:45:20 AM »
I'm planning a small excursion into the lake district in a few weeks time. Would like to take some videos of the various routes so need to purchase suitable video camera for the bike. Any advice of best product to buy would be appreciated.

Unless you buy the additional screen for viewing what you are shooting, then don't buy a Hero GoPro as you'll have no idea of what you are filming.

I have a VIO video camera outfit which has a wireless controller and viewing screen and also has a mic to the helmet for commentary as my primary camera and another similar but cheaper one without the viewing screen.

I have a MUVI, again with viewing screen and bar mounted wireless controls (£100) for other  angles, an Oregon for shots from angles where it might get twatted and carry a decent quality HD video camera for off the bike stuff.

By the time you've crunched everything down to play on youtube most non-HD cameras are okay.
Get on Amazon or Action Cameras and have a look. Don't forget the mountings don't come cheap.
Ride a bit, stop, drink tea, ride a bit more.

What sort of price and what quality do you want ? they are the question you need to ask yourself .

If you do go with HD ,you need to have a fairly powerfull pc or laptop to render or edit the videos.

If you just want a basic setup ,there are some cheap cameras from ebay

This is a clip from a £10 camera

This is from an ATC camera

They are both WMV 640x480 standard ,although the footage should be slightly better if your only using it on the road

Compare these to this one in the lowest setting HD 720p
