route ideas
« on: June 03, 2011, 06:49:03 AM »
wasn't sure where to put this request, apologies if this has been covered before, or if I have put it in the wrong forum.

I met up with some guys from various parts of the UK on an organised bike tour of the peak district, Yorkshire dales and the lake district.  I've kept in touch with them, and they would like to come to South Wales and for me to take them on some rides.

I've got a couple of nice runs I like to do,  Llandovery to Builth for example, but what runs would all you guys recommend.  They like all sorts, from twisty, narrow, steep mountain passes, to bendy, quick A Roads.

Thanks for any feedback.  Much appreciated.

Dave

Best road for the twistys is Crossgates to Newtown.

Best road for sightseeing would be the Elan Valley run from Rhyadder to Devils Bridge.

Best road for fast corners and all sorts would be A44 from Rhyadder to Aberystwyth.

For twisty lanes also check out Llyne Brianne reservoir near llandovery goes from Beulah to Llandovery or you can get off half way round and head to Tregarron then onto Lampeter and on to Aberystwyth from there  :thumbsup

I agree with above comments.  Crossgates to Newtown then back for breakfast in the cafe is always a good run. Roads are in pretty good condition as well.

Thanks all, will definitely give this routes a try.  Has any tried the Gospel Pass, north of the ruins of Llanthony Priory?

Thanks ohmistagee, will go out and buy it.

Great photos garyboy, I enjoyed the Gospel Pass once I got on it, but it was a bit too agricultural to get to it.  Often I had to duck low branches from trees that were overhanging the road.  Once onto the Pass though, I thought it was a beautiful run.
