Red & Tim dirty weekend down South
« on: November 19, 2011, 08:43:28 PM »
It was finally here, myself and Red had made plans for her and Tim to come down and sample some of the stunning trials we are blessed with down here in South Wales. We had arranged to meet at Touratech carpark in Ystardgynlais at 9:00 am along with some of my local riding mates, G man had ridden from Carmarthen, 40 miles away on a dirt bike (DRZ 400E), he arrived in plenty of time at mine so we had a quick cuppa to thaw him out and set of to meet the rest

(L-R)
Tim, Red, Gman, MWHT

After quick introductions it was time for the off.The route was quite rocky and slippery so did warn Red to take her time as she was quite new to trail riding but did have a very good teacher in Tim (well renouned world traveller in the adventure bike scene ),she is also married to him  :thumbsup.
I sent the other guys off in front so i could video the ride and they could open the gates, i was expecting Red to find it quite difficult due the recent weather but she just took it all in her stride .
The first part is quite slippery in places and has a nice rocky desent to a river crossing, Fair play she road down most of the way but did shy out of the river, i should have as i nearly went over myself  :no

MWHT showing how it's done

Quick stop to sort out G mans front brake issue and we were off again

There was one more tricky downhill near the end of the Sarn, i have had to ride a couple of bikes down for people who have been to scarred to ride it themselves in the past so was a bit worried for Red, we stopped at the gate just before the descent and she was willing to give it a go.

We were all very impressed as she rode it down all the way without issue(we started to think she was a ringer and had been riding years)  :scratch

It was'nt much further and we were in Sennybridge for a well earned food and fuel stop ,but not before taking in a very snotty slippery lane, again Red managed it quite easily

G man taking some arty pics

After lunch it was back on the trails ,more slippery and bigger puddles this time on the Roman road that runs along side the and on top of Trecastle, MWHT's mighty Beta Alp usually has electrical issues along here and it happened again, only this time the trusty wd40 trick didn't work so with my magic touch (and a bit of choke) we were up and running .

Down another slippery slope

Tim smiling away

It was then into West end cafe for another well earned cuppa before the road ride home, we didn't want to do too much as there was another long day tomorrow .

These were taken with a shaky hand coming over the black mountains on the way home

Day two and videos to come soon .

ps ,if you click on the pictures they will enlarge to the full size, forum software is setup to make them smaller for some reason  :tup2

Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!

I have had a great weekend  :clap :clap :clap

I laughed loads, but never once cried  :tt :tt Jasext  is the top man, and the back up crew a great bunch of blokes

I only had one bit i wouldn't do and got Tim to do that for me, but did take a pic as it was my bike that went through the water  :rofl :rofl even if i wasn;t riding it  :nails :nails

some scary moment but Jasext and my back up crew  :innocent supported me with advice and tips and loads of encouragement and the 2 days they stayed at my pace and all happy to have a gentle ride  :group_hug

its so much more fun than road riding (most of the time) and I'm getting better each time I go out  :thumbsup

looking forward to next time already  :clap :clap :clap

does my bum look big in this.....
