Oirish Pub Tour
« on: September 01, 2011, 10:20:10 PM »

Just come back after 3 day tour of the South East of Ireland,550 miles of joy and Guiness.
Quick report and not many picks.
Tuesday morning packed up the bike and headed for Holyhead. :thumbsup
Was planning on catching the fast ferry at 12 to Dunleary so i could get a quick getaway from Dublin.
Bloomin Gog weather put paid to that as the heavens opened, stopped under a bridge for some shelter until the monsoon stopped and found out i had failed to pack some wet gear. :roll_eyes
Do i go back or do i carry on. :scratch decisions decisions.
Anyway i carried on and was planning to stop at Gelert in Porthmadog to buy some stuff but the skies cleared up,didn't see a drop of rain then the whole trip.
:tup2
Eventually got to Holyhead but too late for the fast one so jumped on the 15.00 ferry too Dublin :no
Quite a few bikers going on and some Oirish Gold Wings as well who came in handy to follow out of Dublin, well for a short time though coz those bloomin things can't filter and my Buell don't like traffic.
Quick thanks and i'm on my way snaking through to join the M9 down towards Kilkenny.
Some very good roads been built over there since i was last over and i was on the outskirts of KK at around 8 tish.
Phoned up a B&B and made my way there.
The plan that evening was to visit a friend who runs a pub just outside KK,place called Thomastown.
Got to the pub around 9 after quick SSS,10 euro taxi ride :shocked and i'm savoring the black stuff. :party

Next morning the sun was out, felt a bit groggy but after Mary Fitzgeralds Oirish breakfast i was fit to go.
Made my way towards Waterford down some twisty roads trying to avoid potholes everywhere  :eek
Parked up the bike and treated myself to a Thai massage, highly recomended for the weary biker. :cool
Quick pop in to Waterford Harley for a chat ,managed to get a free keyring but no t shirts.
On my way again and down for lunch at seaside Tramore.
Followed the coast road(Copper Coast) towards Cork via Dungarvan and up to Mallow and onwards to Kanturk where i was staying with some friends.
More of the black stuff and a fine evening.

Had to cut the trip short, was planning on going to Killarney this morning but need to be home by this evening.
Set off from Kanturk and headed to Mallow-Fermoy-Waterford and Rosslaire.
Got onboard the 15.00 fast ferry to Fishguard,2 hour crossing and back up the coast road A487 twds Mach.
Stopped off at Aber for a quick paned this evening and got home at around 8.
The route up from Fishguard was a delight, the condition of our roads is much better than over in Ireland, not being too critical,i found some really nice roads over there but you have to concentrate a lot more,as you never now what is round the corner.
Other than that a fantastic place too visit, the people are magnificent and it won't be too long until i venture again.
The sad thing was it was very quite in the pubs and the mood was a bit somber due to the financial troubles,it was mentioned that 75.000 young people have left in the past year too seek work elswhere.
It's similar over here i know but when you see empty new villages, sort of paints a dark picture.

Well that's all folks for this year,i was very lucky with the weather, i'm sure it will rain now for the next month.. :leaving.

Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!

Go for it,really great place to visit and plenty of B and B littered all over, usually charge around 40 euro per night.
If i had the chance i would go more often, being in different countries riding new roads is the biz.
Done a couple this year.
After the first one you'll be hooked. :tup2

I've got a better plan this time - booked the ferry etc but for 1 bike, not told him yet we are going. The night before tell him to fill the bike up and stick the panniers on. He won't have time to worry about how many pairs of knickers I've packed, then keep him topped up with the black stuff all weekend....

does my bum look big in this.....
