Living the Dream - 16th April 2011
« on: April 17, 2011, 12:55:22 AM »
Abandoned in Barry as everyone seemed to be at George Whites, Beads and I decided to go out for a play after both of us had finished work. We got away by around 11ish not really knowing what we were going to do. Should we follow to Swindon or just make the most of the time we had more locally.

Fast forward at this point to the end of the day when Beads said to me - 'do a rideout report and I will put the photos on'. Agreeing to this I thought what am I going to write. We had a great day out but we didn't go anywhere out of the ordinary and didn't do anything that people on bikes don't do whenever they go out. So if what we did was so ordinary why do we end the day thinking that was great?

Commonly we now say 'I'm living the dream', invariably a piss take - Pope:'I'm sat in the car at the end of an industrial estate eating my sandwiches with the roof down - living the dream', etc etc. Jump back to the start of our rideout today. Our first stop was the popular Knee down roundabout near Newport. Beads had a dream of circling that until he got his knee down. Off he went full of determination and an idea in his head of how he wanted to be able to ride and how cool he would look. After around 5 or 6 circles, getting closer and closer he finally dragged the slider along the road - naturally followed by a whoooop! Living that particular dream - and looking mighty cool. Several more scrapes and Beads had finally finished pleasuring himself on the roundabout. We were done and heading for Burgers.

Today's burgers were supplied by the mountain burgery place on Caerphilly Mountain. It was a nice but trafficy ride over. I had a light salad as im watching my weight(!), and Beads attempted the Mountain Beast burger - it was at least as big as his head and I couldn't help wondering which one contained  more meat? Burgers in hand (and gob) we sat and sprawled next to our bikes and talked. As we did this I saw people looking at the bikes - and they are cool mofo's for sure - (pics Kyle come on). I remember how it felt wanting my bike and then getting it. Some of you will have seen Beads' recent post prior to getting his cbr1000rr. How lucky are we? Our conversation whilst trying to get every last bit of burger in was entirely about various biking plans and ideas. It may only have been Caerphilly Mountain but we were living the dream.

We decided to shoot up the a470 next and then before reaching Terry's' take the left turn up over the mountain. Is this dead sheep? No idea. We made a quick photo stop. The view down the valley was magnificent until the foreground included Beads having a slash - note to all women, he was smoking at the same time so the idea that men can't multitask is clearly a vicious lie. Beads was relieved (me even more so as he was threatening to take a shit too - living the dream - they were my leathers he was wearing and there was little sign of toilet roll on the mountain). Off we went weaving our way between sheep, cars and mountains. It wasn't long before I could no longer see Beads, his new knee down skills gave him superhuman riding abilities in the twisties.

Next dream to be lived was a bit of wheelie action on the long straight at the bottom of Rhigos. Videos around here somewhere if anyone cares. Up, down, up, down, done! Lets move on. Final stop Barry Island. Park the bikes in full view so that the envious admiring hoards can drool over them. Living up to the biker image we had a round of slushpuppy's, crisps and muffins. The sun was out and it was beautifully warm. What could be better. Yes of course - the Gavin and Stacey tour group arrived for their photo opportunity with their favourite cardboard cut outs.

It didn't matter that we hadn't gone far away. Imagine today with no bike. Today was great, we had fun, talked about things we wanted to plan and places we would like to go. Today we lived the dream. Just for the day if you get out on the bike with a mate or two you manage to forget that you have a job that you hate, or in my case that you aren't in India today for sis - in - laws birthday party. I may ride like one of the Gavin and Stacey cut outs and my non-biking mates may think im super sad because I take photos of my bike, but I don't care - I'm living the dream!!!

Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!

You two always seem to have good fun. Beads, it's good to see you are living up to your Ely come Barry boy reputation - wheelies and lapping on roundabouts. Makes me proud :rofl
