Favourite Roads

Local has to be Aberystwyth to Llangurig, Newtown to Crossgates

Away is Penrith A686 to the Hartside Cafe ( highest in england ), an old drovers road now an "A" road that follows the contours of the hill, hairpin after hairpin, power wheelies on the way up, blue discs on the way down

The A68 from Hexham to Otterburn called the Rollercoaster road, 45mph sees the bike full in the air when going over the crests, the pillions are expected to keep hands waving in the air

IOM, Sulby straight, I went down it at 120, the gods go down it at 190

The A4059 run from the Rhigos mountain end to the Beacons reservoir, fast, sweeping and enough browns and bends to keep me happy.

Gotta look out for the suicide sheep that jump out of the ditches either side of the road though. And in lambing season you have to take it really easy as they run all over the road and are very unpredictable.

Dead sheep mountain, it's called that for a reason, absolutely amazing road though if you get a clear run at it.

I quite like the A4069 too, awesome hairpin, road looks like it was laid in one big ribbon across the mountain. Just be careful and aware of tractors and combine harvesters.

With a good chunk of it a 30mph limit. :eek
If you get the chance to spectate from the churchyard, the noise is awesome, like an explosion as the bikes pass between the houses about 15 feet away.

I have a soft spot for the lane from Llangefelach (J46), B4489 signed for Velindre - over the top to Ammanford. Not fast, just trundle along and take in the views.

Not done the A4069 too often but vividly remember the first time when a mate led me over it. He didn't hang about as he knew the road but after the first 10 mins I had to slow down a bit as I nearly got caught out at his speed a few times not knowing the road at all.

Having lived in Ammanford in a previous life I'v done that road many times in the car but not on the bike, will have to try it one day.

Fav road has to be the A470 from Llangurig to Builth, then on to Llandovery over the sugar loaf.
