Bikesafe weekend.
« on: May 23, 2010, 08:58:50 PM »
Did bikesafe with er indoors as pillion, Sarah on her bike, and Dhd tagged along just for fun it would seem.

Met at Maindy stadium in Cardiff and sorted all the introductions etc

I think there were 9 riders all together and two pillions. Got a few hours of theory out of the way in the classroom, had a bite to eat which was provided for us in the shape of a buffet. Bloody good spread of food it was too  :thumb_up

Anyway, next step was out on the roads with Kev the bike cop as our guide. From Cardiff up the 470 to Brecon and then a break at Sennybridge cafe, with just one or two short stops on the way just to pick up on a few points.

Nerves were calmed by now, and yes, you do get nervous and ride differently with a cop on a fully marked bike behind you. Lots of positive advice was provided by Kev and some very useful points were covered. Had a nice flowing ride back over Dyfynnog but struggled to keep to the speed limit. In fact I struggled with it all weekend. Dhd struggled with it to the point of being pulled over and given a good dressing down by Jeff  :tt

Another good talk after the first day and day two picked up with some first aid advice and a few other bits and pieces. More nom noms and then out on the roads again. Down through the centre of Cardiff and out on the a48 towards Cowbridge. Left on 5 mile lane then Barry, Rhoose, St Athans, Wick, Bridgend, then the A48 to the cafe on Cowbridge common with Sarah leading all the way  :thumb_up Loads of bikes down there today and glorius sunshine. More hints and tips from Kev as always, and a nice ride back along the 48 to the Piglet HQ.

Then an overview of your course with gradings and comments to help you further. I had 8 a's and 5 b's and I basically need to learn not to force my overtakes  :thumb_down That was a kick in the spuds to be honest when you see Dhd's results. I was fuckin robbed occifer!!! He actually got pulled for speeding and still got straight a's?? How the fuck does that work??

In fairness to Kev he did actually compliment me for doing such a good job with Sarah's riding. He said she was really safe and smooth, and just needs to take her riding to the next level. He also said i'm ready to go in for advanced riding so I was pleased with that. Proud of Sarah too - I think she's fookin brilliant for her age and experience  :group_hug

Loads more advice and lots of freebies.  :thumbsup I'm selling bikesafe tank protectors for £2 each, and mugs for £1 if anyones interested.  :fishing

Anyway, it's great course that myself and especially Sarah took a lot from, and for £20 you can't go wrong  :thumb_up

Thanks go to Kev, Jeff and all the other guys who give up their time to keep us between the lines. Not all coppers are wankers it would seem  :thumb_up

And they even taught Dhd how to get his knee down - proper stylee  :clap

Steve, was it Kev Garner taking the course? I did my Mod 1 and some of my Mod 2 training with him, top bloke and decent sense of humour too.

Glad you enjoyed the weekend, as you say £20 well spent  :thumbsup

Wouldn't trust any of us, we're all dodgy. Worked in Cardiff for years but as soon as I opened my mouth it was a give away!
