Bank Holiday run
« on: May 02, 2011, 08:31:28 PM »
Decided last minute.com to to get out today being the last day of rest before going back to the grindstone tomorrow.
After seeing Petes report and having visited Knighton in the van last week i decided to head for there via Hay on Wye.
Had the wife as pillion to try out some new boots she bought yesterday too.
Headed to Aberdare 1st as had to get some passport photos done to renew our passports for the Spain tour  :thumbsup
Up over a very windy dead sheep mountain  :eek
Stopped at Terrys briefly but not many there just a few back patch wearers.
Decided to head onto Brecon and straight to Hay the most direct route on the A438 through Bronllys, 3 Cocks  :sma, Glasbury where we took the B4350 that lead us into Hay.
Had a walk around for a bit through some of the little alleyways that are filled with shops etc.

and as usual hit one of the nice cake shops they have here for a giant bakewell slice om nom nom :

After about 30 minutes we headed off in the general direction of nowehere along the B4352 which was a cracking little road taking us to Bredwardine, through a little lane onto the A438 for a bit then onto the A4111 all the way up to Kington.
Stopped at Kington for an arse break :

Then moved off on the B4355 to Presteigne and onto Knighton.

Knighton was a big disappointment on a bank holiday so didnt stay long before heading off for Crossgates cafe for lunch :

Om nom nom

Again Crossgates was dead so headed to Rhayader, straight through and down the A470 to take the Beulah road  :thumbsup

Got into Llandovery for a pee break and a chat to someone i know there.
Stayed for about 20 minutes and left for home.

Got down to Merthyr and decided id had enough of the boring a470 and took the old route down to home.

Total mileage 179, amount of tossers on the road including some bikers,  loads!!!!!

Nice one jas, there's quite a bit to explore up around that way. It was the first time I'd been up that way and have to thank dhd really for suggesting some places. Will go to craven arms next time and try the Newtown to cross gates road that pope mentioned!

Thanks guys and Pete your right dude, theres loads of nice B roads that way, then again theres quite a few closer to home but most people usually take the main roads so miss out on roads like these.
Definately more exploring to be done there methinks

That egg on toast  :drool :drool :drool :drool :drool :drool :drool

Also out today with Beads & Ja6on and noticed a real lack of bikers about  :scratch
Really odd as the weather was fine and warm and bank holidays are usually PACKED

I was wondering what was putting people off, maybe they thought the filth would be out in force?  :scratch
That said I didn't see a SINGLE plod car either all day.

I asked Terry and he said it was also odd at how quiet it was.  Same went for Llandovery caff.
A handful of bikes there

Twas very odd indeed, maybe the wind put people off or maybe they just did the family thing being a bank holiday but like you said Llandovery was also very quiet

Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!
