Thursday night... the mobile phone beeps 'Oh I got a text. must be a wrong number' I thought. Nope, it was Marco getting all jiggy cos he had a day off and asking if me and the Jo were up for a ride to whereversville in the morning 'Cool' - a day out was planned!
So Friday morning, bang on the top of 10:00 me and Jo (who was on her own bike, and at this point had not been told where we were going) met Marco on his two wheeled HGV with Bex pillion (both sporting new his and hers matching RST kit) and Jason XT on his Hornet in Godre Graig, and headed off.
I had thought of going to Abergaveny then Symonds Yat, but in true bike day out stylee that changed before a wheel had turned and Jas had an even better route idea that took in some more scenic roads, so off we headed down the A4067 past Dan Y Ogof. For once I actually didn't turn off and go over Defynnog or to Senni and carried on to the A40 towards Brecon. Stopped at the layby mid way - well most of us did... Jo had 'Target Fixation' going on and she buzzed straight past the rest of us... I had to do a quick chase to catch her and bring her back or I'd of had to pay for my own tea!!
Next was a steady run to Builth, during which time I realised I can get the Tiger round bends a damn sight quicker than I could ever get the Blade and a bit of Hornet chasing (Big grins all round!) Stopped at a handily placed burger van near the Esso station in Builth, when these two dudes on vintage 1940's US army bikes pulled in complete with sidecar an all.
Thought about heading to Llandovery, but as the sun was sort of out, we headed off to Elan Valley where we got accosted by an ambulance crew looking for a downed biker in the area, shortly followed by the air ambulance doing a search pattern - did not come across the off and hope nothing too bad... Over the metal bridge and around the reservoirs dodging sheep, tourists and the obligatory gravel, but a small price to pay for such a cracking area.
The return journey was where Jason came out of his box and guided us back via the roads less traveled over the ranges, where Marco got the breaks on his humongous Beema to almost glow, to Senni where a quick tea stop was in order, before heading home via Trecastle and the back lanes to Dan Y Ogof.
So... 4 bikes and 5 bodies out and 4 bikes, 5 bodies back - 160 miles, several cups of tea, some large bread and butter puddings and a trip down memory lane for me at the German Village on the ranges and some banter.
Great day was had by all - and even got a few pics for those that can't read.....
