It looks like you have 12 months to drive/ride on your licence, then have to take the test anyway, so you may as well do it now if your planning on staying?   .... :scratch  :scratch  :scratch
Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!

Hi yes I have got my bike sorted! I ride an NSR125 untill I pass my test I got it from Ebay, Then I will ride a CBR600 which I have also got and also came from Ebay!same with most of my kit too! I love Ebay ....can you tell lol ;-)
Thank you. wow, from ebay... without inspecting the bike? lucky :-)

It was more desperation to get something with the little money I had rather than luck!! Besides if there enough days before the listing ends 90% of sellers will let you view the bike so not so scary really!!

i will be here for at least another year, so wouldn't like to miss out to visit places in and around wales :-) during my stay here. another reason being, wouldn't like to have similar limitations for driving if i travel later, as british licence should be valid in most places of the world unlike mine!! something you guys can be proud of for maintaining the standard :-)

as long as the bike is alright you are fine. i had a bad experience buying my car from a used car dealer, who promised me full service record, etc and finally just washed off his hands saying the owner lost / didn't give them. I had to spend about 2500 to fix it, thats how I got a good mechanic, who was very helpful when buying a car for my mate :-)

hi there all,,,it`s a dificult question to answer,,until i get all the details,,so i don`t want to print a false answer on the site,,,

normally if you live in an eu state your licence covers you to ride in this country for one year,,,but i don`t think it covers you from your country,,,,

don`t ride until your sure,,,thats why i need for you to ring me ,,give me all the details and i`l get my office to ring the dvla and find out the correct facts,,,

but if you haven`t passed your test you have to have an instructor with you at all times,,,even to the test centre,,,(if your doing das)  you can omly ride a 125 on l plates on your own,,,

i hope this helps,,,,

the following is from the dvla web site( directgov.uk
Residents
If you are the holder of an ordinary driving licence (car, moped, motorcycle entitlement) and provided your licence remains valid, you can drive any category of small vehicle shown on your licence for up to 12 months from the time you became resident. To ensure continuous driving entitlement a provisional GB licence must have been obtained and a driving test(s) passed before the 12-month period elapses. If you obtain a provisional licence during this period, you are not subject to provisional licence conditions eg displaying 'L' plates or being supervised by a qualified driver or being precluded from motorways. However, if you do not pass a test within the 12-month concessionary period you will not be allowed to drive as a full licence holder and provisional licence conditions will apply. If you do not apply for a provisional licence within the first 12 months you must stop driving and obtain a British provisional licence with a view to passing a driving test. Provisional licence conditions will then apply.

If you are the holder of a vocational licence (minibus, bus, lorry entitlement) and a new resident, you must not drive large vehicles until you have passed the relevant GB driving test. Driving test candidates are required to pass a motor car (category B) test first before applying for provisional entitlement for larger vehicles.
////////////////////////////////////////
so from what read he can drive /ride untill the 12mth period is up,,,, however i would think that the insurance would be an issue

The way I understand it, going from that link, you will need to apply for a provisional motorbike licence and once it arrives, you can then ride a bike for up to 12 months without passing your test, or without using L-plates etc. After the 12 months, you can no longer ride, unless you've passed your UK test and have a new UK licence.

the way i read it he would be able to ride on his license even before applying for a provisional , but to ensure that after 12mts is up a british test must be passed hence the need for a british provisional to go thru the theory and mod 1/2  test

thanks everyone. thats clears up some of the confusion surrounding this.

I am waiting for my Provisional licence. Fingers crossed, want to finish my theory test before i move on to cbt / das. so need to read the highway code and do some practice tests soon for it. only then i plan to call people to arrange for my cbt and das.

in the mean while i need to look out for a bike (street bike / naked bike, more upright seating position, about 400 to 600cc) :-) any suggestions or if you know of people who are selling their bike do let me know. my budget not more than 1500.... but cheaper the better :-) as long as it wasn't seriously damaged and is in reasonable condition .

Thank you.

Best Regards,
Pal
