Scooter
« on: May 13, 2011, 03:28:03 PM »
Driving near home today & see a scooter approaching, let him pass as seems in a hurry. L plate on back & also a passenger with feet dangling. Total safety equipment between 2 of them consisted of one helmet worn like a hat on rider.

:rofl
bit difficult as there is no class of motorcycle called a"scooter" in legal terms its either a MOPED or an automatic motorcycle ( dependant on engine size and output)

Biggest problem I've seen with scooter riders is fear.

I followed behind a pizza hut delivery boy shielding him from other cars a few weeks back. He was riding in the gutter doing his 28mph in a 30mph limit, 3 cars in front of me buzzed him so closely I deliberately took the centre of the lane, held back from overtaking him (and subsequently got tailgated by an ass) and followed him until my turn off.

They seem fearful of pissing off other road users. However what they need to realise is that road users are going to be pissed at them anyway, even if they're in the gutter.

If people are going to be pissed off anyway, may as well be as safe as you can be and get in the middle of the damn road. You're doing 28 in a 30 screw the guys behind you, if they want to overtake make them do it properly.

Just like riding a push bike, ride assertively and "Take the lane".

I see the above so often, its scary.
