Mod1 on 500, Mod2 on 125?
« on: December 15, 2011, 08:56:09 AM »
Hi all, as way of introduction let me first say I'm not a Welsh Biker, although wish we had the same community forums as you in Essex!. I frequently keep being directed to your site from Google on a range of motorcycle related topics so thought I'd sign-up hopefully not breaking any geographical rules!.

I'm a learner, having done my CBT almost two years ago, theory test and Mod1 (on big bike). My sticking point is I've failed my Mod2 twice now (hate failing anything). The fails have been on what I'd consider niggly points, such a being in the right lane approaching a roundabout to take 4th exit (it had 5 so I later discovered) but as it was practically all the way round 3'oclock I was in the right (wrong lane). I'm 34 and have been driving safely since I passed my test at 17 so moved into middle lane past the 12 o'clock position signal left, life saver and exited without issue :-(

So my question is, this is costing me a fair bit of money and have no idea when I will pass so want to take mod2 on my own Aprilia RS125. Problem being is I took mod1 on 500cc. I don't mind being restricted for 2 years to 33bhp so would I need to take mod1 again on 125?

Thanks in advance.

think that will be a yes, both parts have to be done on the same type ie; 500 cc or 125cc for the restricted you could always ring the DAS for conformation, welcome to the forum what part deepest dark england you at then

Welcome to the forum, there's a few of us here who wandered across the bridge! Sounds as if the niggly points would happen no matter what size bike. Might be best to iron out the issues on your 125 then get some lessons on the 500 to save cash.

What did your instructor say about the roundabout? any chance of a google earth link for the roundabout as i would have thought what you did should have been ok

Welcome! As Pricey says you need to pass both parts on the same spec bike. You've got too choices, do Mod1 again on your 125 or practise like mad and book a 500 again for mod 2. From my understanding is the examiner will look very closely at DAS pupils on Mod2 as they know you can hope off the CB500 and straight onto a 160BHP bike, if they pass you on your 125 you can buy a Fireblade but it'll still be 33hp. Good luck whichever way you decide to go.

This! :thumbsup

A bad manouver is a bad manouver on any bike, stop stressing over bike choice and just pass :) took me 2 goes after I stalled on a junction.

No minors, 1 dangerous. I knew what I did wrong so just went and did it again 10 days later without stalling, simples!

Thanks for the responses :-) I did call the dsa first but she was confused, told me it's no problem then spoke with her manager and changed it to no it's not ok  :scratch

I wonder if that's true about being harder on people on a 500 as opposed to 125, both my friends passed first time on 125, but maybe they just better than me lol

I think I'll book up mod1 again and do it on 125 as I'd have 4 attempts and a single mod2 before it'd have cost me anymore doing mod2 only on hired 500...

In regards to safe driving for 17 years, I base that on not hurting myself or anyone else in that time touch wood it continues!.  :thumb_up

Safe riding all and good luck to anyone else taking their test soon  :scooter
