Drivers will be urged to look out for motorcyclists at junctions in a Government bid to cut casualties. (again  :weed)

Road Safety Minister Mike Penning has today launched a new motorcycle awareness campaign aimed at getting drivers to lookout for riders.

Through advertisements at petrol forecourts and on national radio they will try an convey the message.

Shame no TV ads this time though  :scratch

What would you do if you where in charge?

Keep it constructive please :fine

You never know they could be watching this forum looking for ideas :fishing

How about: just LOOKING for a start! a great big pair of eyeballs at the side of the road with LOOK in massive blinking font!

Maybe notorious junctions becoming 'stop' (red hexagon sign and solid line) instead of 'give way'?

On that new type of test "Hazard & etc" they should have on the film a biker pulling out of each junction.

Or make every car driver have to ride a moped/bike as a learner for a year first.

One thing I wont swerve or try to avoid when driving though is the kids in Newport ranting round Ringland on there pit bikes, ferkem.

Educating drivers is a good idea.
Unfortunately many drivers see what they expect to see.
It is an intractable problem.
For self preservation riders have to be very wary around junctions. Making eye contact is good. Wheel watching is very effective. ie if wheel turns then vehicle is moving ( simples, I know )
Rider position on road is also useful. If rider is where car driver would be there is more chance of the driver in the junction spotting the bike than if the bike is positioned near the kerb.
Some colours are more noticeable. A grey bike on a rainy day may not be seen.
There have been many ad campaigns all over the world about SMIDSY type incidents & I hope some of our computer literate members can put them on this thread.
Sadly it is of little comfort you were not to blame when you are lying in hospital or worse.
Drivers who are also bikers tend to expect to see bikes & act accordingly.
Different bike types have different " presence " on the road. Compare a police pan am or a gs 1200 to an Ri for instance. The visual " footprint " is very changed.
Visual perception tells people that small things tend to be far away & get larger as they approach.
Sports bikes that have coloured headlight screens certainly get my vote as they stand out.
As to your question. How about showing a biker astride a charging bull elephant with the caption " Now do you see me "
I once saw an ad showing bikers being messed about by motorists continually pulling out on them. It ended with the biker driving a tank over the car. At the back of the tank was a sign  "sorry mate I didn't see you "

when I'm on my travels with work and I see one of those think biker posters on the road, it does make me even more alert, but maybe thats because I ride myself.
