Where does that road go?
« on: June 29, 2011, 08:24:26 PM »
If you are a bit jaded by the same old motorcycling roads why not get lost.Have a map/gps or sense of direction to get home but boldly go where you have not been before.

To me the best bit of motorcycling is the ability & freedom to go where you please. The journey not destination is what counts.
Why follow the crowd up to Brecon, Abergavenny, Llandovery etc every Sunday.

Get lost . You will enjoy it. I have found some lovely places doing just that.

Plus the added benefit that riding unknown roads usually means more concentration resulting in better observation and dare I say more conservative speeds.

Can I get a Trafford badge now?  :fishing

In music it's called "sight reading".
When you're reading a piece of music for the first time you have to get into the piece by listening what others are doing around you and also paying particular attention to the manuscript in front of you.  Is it fast,is it slow, is it loud or quiet?  The same applies to M/Cycling.

1. What Type of road is it? How wide, what type of road surface, what road markings, what surroundings, how busy is it? I could go on and on.
2. What's the weather like? road conditions, exposed side winds etc
3. What condition is the bike? "the tyres need replacing, but there's another 200 miles in them"???? :shocked
4 What condition is the rider?  a bender the night before surely is not going to achieve 100% accuracy and enjoyment
5 Mental Attitude. There's  NO WAY you should go out for a ride in a bad or upset mood!!!
Whether after having a row with the significant other or being cut up by a 4 wheeler on the first roundabout you get to.  If the latter is the case ,stop at the nearest cafe, S/ Station and get a coffee relax for 10 mins and keep telling yourself that the plonker is NOT going to upset your perfect ride.
6. What is the capacity of the tank? You don't want to go for a run only to start worrying about fueling up in the middle of nowhere.
7. Ride within your limits! Ride to the speed you are comfortable with, take time to blend into your environment and feel as one with the surroundings. It will make for a more enjoyable rid

It's what Biking is all about :tup2
