think that used to be legal, but there's a law now saying shops don't have to accept 1p/2p's for anything that costs over £1 or something around that figure.

yeah a new law the currency act of 1971

Currently, 20 pence pieces, 25-pence coins and 50-pence pieces are legal tender in amounts up to 10 pounds; 5-pence pieces and 10-pence pieces are legal tender in amounts up to 5 pounds; and 1-penny pieces and 2-pence pieces are legal tender in amounts up to 20 pence

***UPDATE***

Ive had a responce from Waitrose (see below)

Thank you for your e-mail.

Firstly, please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to you which is as a result of the high volume of e-mails being received at this time.

I can confirm that it is the policy of Waitrose to ask riders to remove helmets prior to the dispensing of and paying for fuel.

We ask for a rider to remove their helmet (prior to dispensing) to help staff verify the age of the customer, but also to help police with enquiries should they need to review CCTV footage if a stolen bike is driven into one of our petrol stations, a bike is stolen from the forecourt or if a customer rides off without paying for fuel.

We require a riders helmet to be removed when paying for fuel to satisfy the cashiers legal obligation of selling fuel.

I hope that this information will be of assistance to you.

Regards,

Chris Zawadski

Waitrose Customer Service.

Thats fine but can anyone shed any light on what ive marked in red

Is it a legal obligation?

What about muslims then , are they exempt , or are they inc in this , remove your face veil to show us how old you are , ffs ,. :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead

Full face helmets are a no no  ,  but flip front lids  ???? whats the stance on that ?????

Also the bullshit about get off your bike first , is that policy or made up by employees or know nothing about bikes and filling tanks up properly , mine holds 2.80 less when on its side stand , so they will sell more petrol and make more profit when im sat on my bike .

if it was about static electricity from clothing , passenegrs in cars with valour interiors would be banned .
Chavs in tracksuits would be banned from walking across forecourts too , there full of shit admin . :fine :boxing :banghead

Rant over , but see the point . :hit

So who's gonna drive their car in and fill up wearing a Santa suit, beard and all?

Would they refuse to serve Santa cos they can't see his face? That'd be interesting  :thumb_up

:old  Called into New Garage in Tudor St, Cardiff for fuel, although I wear a flip front helmet, (bit claustrophobic see), I was wearing a balaclava up over my nose.  No problem with filling up or paying without removing my helmet first.   :thumb_up

waitrose in Abergavenny have been doing this for years on end, I only went there once, I make a point of not using it now, it's the same price in the hereford road Esso station (by the Baily pub) and no hassle with lids etc
