Waitrose Abergavenny discriminate against bikers
« on: October 25, 2009, 09:04:00 PM »
As Wildcat stated in her ride report we called in for fuel on our rideout today. We doubled up on the pump to save time and space on the other pumps,i put in £10 in each bike and Wildcat went in to pay again to save time.Anyway she came out with the money still in her hand sayin that the woman cashier had asked her to remove her crash helmet before she would accept payment as it was the law.I told her no worries id go in and pay,to which i went in with the £20 clearly visible in my hand.Only to have the same request thrown at me by the cashier.I then asked wot the problem was as i clearly had a method of payment in my hand, she then said it was cos she couldnt see my face because of my crash helmet. So i said im hardly likely gonna truy and hold up the petrol station with 2 tenners in my hand. She then said that theyve had nothin but trouble and attitude off bikers!!!
At this point i asked her to get the manager as i didnt like her attitude, she retorted that i had an attitude problem.Wildcat then came in to the shop and at this point the queue for the pump was building up nicely behind the bikes.Fairplay a guy who was also in the queue waitin to pay said that it was her that had the attitude problem not me.I did ask if i was a muslim would i also be asked if to remove my head gear? Her reply was that she was sick of hearing bikers  using that as an excuse. She then threw a copy of the South Wales Argus on the counter with a picture and a headline showing a biker in a crashhelmet robbing a petrol cashier.I said to her then are you saying that all bikers are robbers and thieves and if she thought that was me in the picture. She replied ''how do i know its not you in that picture?''Then the manager arrived to try and calm things down,i asked him why do Waitrose discriminate against bikers? He said they didnt but they request that bikers remove theyre helmets before filling up for CCTV identification,so i asked why we were allowed to fill up first, then be humilliated in a queue by being classed as a potential thief or robber? He did apologise that his staff shouldnt serve us without removing our helmets first!!! In my book thats still discrimination.....I am going to write and complain to Waitrose also i may write to MCN. Perhaps we should have a Welshbiker.co mass rideout to Abergavenny converse en mass on Waitrose filling station fill up+refuse to remove our helmets before paying or if they refuse to serve us before helmet removal just refuse to move off the pumps. And fuck em :fuk

Bastids, feckin hate it when they do that, unfortunately happens all too often these days, even my local garage does it including a girl i know who works there and she knows its me yet still shouts over the speaker to me 'its policy' but yeah you know its me, ive been filling up there for years on the bikes and you know where i live you stupid bint!
Last time i went there i went just to wind them up, i pulled up then when they shouted across the tannoy again i just put the nozzle back in the pump, got on the bike and rode to the next garage.
I still go there, some ask to remove helmet some dont.

The staff only do what they are told to do unfortunately.

With the winter upon us, who the hell wants to remove kit at a filling station

Condoms aren't completely safe....... no, a friend of mine was wearing one and got hit by a bus.

Just go there on mass and take forever to fill the bikes, and everyone take a petrol can,and the excuse for taking extra time-----taking extra care not to overfill and spill petrol over the bike tank, take as much of the pumps as possible,----time and day people-----time and day. :old :old

I am not 100% sure on this but i think you would have been within your rights just to leave without paying , if they wont accapt payment it is thier problem and as long as you have a means of paying i think you are alright. You could just say that you will pay them the next time you are passing in the car or happen to have your lid off. thats what i would have done anyway, they will soon grab the money off you as they have to balance the till at the end of the day.

Ive been coming across this lately, I have devised a cunning plan tho, I put ten quids worth of fuelin the bike each time and go in a when I am askedto remove my helmet I say No and throw the tenner at the cashier and leave, I have paid for my fuel and cant be done for anything.

In pontypool the other day I was humiliated by a cashier by her shreaking at me over the tanoy system to remove my helmet before she would authorise the pump, didnt make any fecking deifference as I was wearing a balaclava, stupid bint,m so I filled up and put my lid back o and went in to pay, she then asked me to remove my lid and I said No, and left my money on the counter and left,

Simple answer wear balaclavas under the helnmets as no signage or warnings or policies will ask for their removel I guarantee it!

It is a guaranteed win for us bikers matey, doesnt matter if it is the law or not to remove a helmet in a petrol station, if it is written in their policies and is appropriately displayed on a sign at every pump not just one somewhere, they are within their rights to insist on it,    but like I said how many policies and signs are going to say

Motorcycle riders please remove helmets before fueling up, oh and dontforget your fucking balaclavas lol.

The woman behind the counter was furious started shouting at me so I just turned round and tapped the sid of my lid and said "sorry darling cant hear you cos I got my music on innit"

I thought she was gonna have an anurism, I even waved at her as I rode off lol.

But on the flip side Illbe up for demonstartain the pertrol station, we could barricade the entrance to the station with the bikes.

It's lacking common sense.

If you're going to rob the place, do they honestly think you're going to fill up your bike first?

 :banghead

I've worked in a petrol station before (tesco) and we were only told not to turn the pumps on to people who were trying to fill coke bottles etc.
Nothing about bikers or helmets so a thumbs up to Tesco on that one.

It just doesn't make sense, and the Muslim argument is a fair one.

That's the one in Treharris before the speed camera i'm guessing?

Cashier also did the same to me, so I chucked my money at her and walked off.  I use the Texaco in Nelson if I'm near there to save hassle in future.

They must get wound up at only being paid minimum wage so get ideas above their station and try to pretend they have a bit of power
