Picked this off another site today... not confirmed it's accuracy yet, but very disturbing if true!!  :shocked

Following on from mandatory ABS across Europe, which can be seen as a good or a bad thing:

The French government likes using the motorcycle world as scapegoat for their own failings. The French motorcycle world is quite small, some 2 million in total, so they do not represent a dangerous voting block. So when they pick on them, there is very little opposition. Non-bikers don't care, and bikers just can't fight hard enough.

The French government has had decided the following. Some of the measures can be seen as good, some as bad, depending on your point of view.  I hope the don’t find there way to the UK.

1. They are going to remove all speed radar warning signs. Now, they are placed a few hundred meters before speed traps.

2. All radar warning devices (not radar detectors which are already highly illegal) are not allowed, including GPS.

3. Driving, or riding, 50 kph over the speed limit is now considered a crime. Up to a €3750 fine, 3 months prison, 6 points of your driving license and your motorcycle/car confiscated.

4. Driving with low levels of alcohol, up to 0.8 g/l will result in 8 points.

5. Motorcycle license plates will be enlarged, making it easier to photograph. No dimensions have been agreed yet.

6. Fluorescent jackets, yellow or orange must be worn at all times.

7. Any biker who can not prove he/she has ridden a "big" motorcycle in the last 5 years, must take a mandatory re-training before riding a bike again.

This will never happen here.France have had a BHP limit on bikes since the 90s.No more than 100bhp is allowed, they are really anti bike, but if you have driven or ridden over there, well, they are stupid drivers to say the least, and riding a bike over there, you must have your wits about you.
Can never see it here.

Interesting to read what other bikers have to put up with. Can't imagine some of the members on here liking wearing high vis. I can see advantages to number 7 mind, watching my Dad get back on a bike after 25 years was just ridiculous.
Don't they also have laws that they aren't allowed to modify their bikes from stock too? Or is that some other country?

OOHH aren't you sooogald we're in the EU ??? :taz  :taz  :taz  :banghead  :banghead

We could do what the French usually do... say ''YES, yes of course we will stick to these new laws'' and then do just as we please anyway  :rofl  :rofl  :rofl
Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!
