NO POINTS DEDUCTED
« on: June 13, 2011, 09:55:58 PM »

Pay your fine, but, NO POINTS DEDUCTED, !!

Read on :-

This is how the points get added to your licence:

If you get a fixed penalty notice through the post which also carries
penalty points the  computer system first sends you a demand for the cash.

When you have paid, it then sends a demand to return your licence for
endorsement.

It cannot handle the licence endorsement and the payment at the same time,
and it cannot  process the points part of the system until the financial
section is complete.

If you overpay the fixed penalty, it must issue and send a refund cheque
for the  overpayment.

Therefore, overpay the fixed penalty by sending a cheque for the full amount
plus £1.

The computer will then automatically generate a refund cheque for the
over-payment and sends  it to you.

**** Do not cash this refund cheque - DUMP IT.

The system then remains 'open' and cannot  generate the 'send your licence
for endorsement' demand part of the program.

It does, however, record your payment of the fixed penalty, so it does not
trigger the  'follow-up unpaid fine' stage.

As there is no human intervention, the system will leave you alone, since
it has got your  money, which is the primary objective!

You are supposed to inform your insurance of any convictions when you get them and fixed penalties for speeding are included otherwise you invalidate your policy , this is stupid advice and unsubstantiated

I agree, not tested by me, I wonder if it's a scam, if it looks to good to be true
it probably is!

It is too good to be true, it might have worked many years ago but not anymore. If you fail to respond to your fixed penalty in the correct manner they do for section 172 which carries 6 points instead.

Or you could do a speed awareness course for a few quid extra, and get no points added.

Problem is, that is not always an option. It wasn't when I got my points last year. I guess it depends in what police jurisdiction you live in.
I agree with the previous - that scam seems too good to be true and your insurance company will not be happy

speed awareness is only offered if you are doing 38mph or less in a 30 limit and even then only if you respond with 7 days of the original NIP

Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!

yep , we made the mistake last year of ignoring a 37 in a 30 NIP and by the time we owned up it was too late for the speed awareness course so it was £60 and 3 points

[/quote]

I thought this untill i got done for 39mph on Wentloog Avenue in Cardiff, as i was in the middle of moving house i didnt get around to sending the NIP back untill i found it unpacking 26 days after the issue date, sent it back first class as its supposed to be back within 28 days. I had a response the following week from the Go Safe section of the safety camera unit with the letter from TCC who run the speed awareness course the next day now i have to book a course date within 4 months and no points just £85 for the course  :taz still better than getting the points
