what a saving
« on: August 25, 2011, 01:59:57 PM »
not bike related, just phoned AOL to ask for a MAC code to close my account,i was paying £20.00 pound to aol for broadband, and £24.00 to BT for the telephone.AOL have now taken over the phone line and calls total cost £18.37 a month for everything unlimited use.it seems they don,t like to loose loyal customers, well happy with that, almost forgot also includes free calls, both national and international.

I couldn't wait to get shot of AOL, not only does their programming take up a HUGE amount of space on your 'puter, but they kept cocking my account up! Now with BT and paying nothing for 3 months, then £16 for line rental with calls 24/7 for free and unlimited broadband!

aol does take up a lot of space on the computer ,they have now upgraded there systems on the telephone exchange so i should get a faster internet speed than BT and no surprises on my bill,i checked out the BT package and it cost a lot more than AOL, i don,t have a lot on my PC so disk space dont really matter to me, but after paying over £40.00 down to 18.00 and not have to keep an eye on anything i,m more than happy :tup2

Only trouble is, AOL infests your PC like a virus and is impossible to get rid of without a reformat.
You'll never see a pro going anywhere near them, they're for newbies only.

If you're happy with their service and their software hasn't caused you any problems Then you have got yourself a good deal.
I pay that with talktalk for a limited 40gb download and they keep telling me I need to upgrade my download allowance as I'm going over.  It's only a £5 difference but I keep puting them off but I will have to upgrade soon.
talktalk and AOL Europe are both carphone warehouse companies.
Yes, everyone else maybe melting to death on the roads but not us! Because we have a car with hair conditioner! I mean what in the name of sanity did they think we want it for? To make sure that the roof rack is more shiny and managable?

sky are doing a 12.25 deal with broadband, line rental and sky talk discount on calls. The broadband is limited to 2gb but for an extra fiver it is truly unlimited unlike BT who in the small print put "reasonable usage limit"

I have been thinking of switching to sky but me and my wife are both studying at home and are dependant on the internet and we know people who have had prolonged setup issues with sky.  It's a risk assessment thing going on.

I'm with sky & have no probs with them with every company you'll find people that have had problems.

The only thing with sky is they don't issue N routers which is the norm these days so I overcome that problem by hacking a BT home hub :-)

I get 20 meg speeds & live about a mile from the exchange.

That's Sky out then if they are issuing b/g routers,  talk about supplying yesteryears technology.  I would never have thought that of them and I would want the n router as I have 2 hardwired pc's,  and using the laptop and xbox simultaneously on wi-fi quite a lot of the time I would think a 'n' router would be needed for stability for wi-fi online gaming.

Are you sure about the Router  Stig?  :scratch

Im in the process of being connected with sky broadband and phone and they have already sent me the n-router, so I only have to wait now to get connected (few weeks  :shocked  )then I can see how well it works.

I thought they must be issuing n-routers by now.  In fact I should imagine every ISP is issuing them by now.

TIP: If you use a cat5 cable over 1M to connect your pc to your router rather than wireless,  replace it with a cat6e cable which is backwards compatible and will  give you a more stable connection to your router.
I have checked this with my tutor to be correct.

I am gonna switch to homeplug adapters for the my sons bedroom pc and my living room pc connections and just keep the bedroom pc wired to the router, It's a really good technology if you have a use for it.
Here's a link if your not sure what it is.

Much more stable than wireless or lengthy cables.

It's only the laptop I have so will be connecting via wireless, but thanks for the info anyway, much appreciated, I know how to use the laptop but when it comes to the technical side of things, my minds a blank  :thumbsup
