oh i got ya pope thanx
i thort was harder tire longer takes to warm up to the best grip
so why do racers use med soft hard etc?? or is it diff when comes to road bikes?
Even a 'hard' race tyre is soft compared to a road tyre.
A 'soft' race tyre will do about 15 laps (depending on circuit) before being binned

Compare that to a road tyre that will do about 6,000 miles and you'll see the difference.
It's to do with Silica content in the tyre which gets quite complicated and difficult to explain.
Also a road tyre is designed to be heat cycled without losing grip (going from cold to hot to cold to hot etc)
a race tyre can only manage a couple of these before the oil inside is lost.
The oil coming out of a race tyre is what makes it go blue on the edges
