MADRIDER TARMAC CHALLENGE
« on: August 08, 2011, 08:28:27 PM »
Ok guys most of you know me as the nutter who rides from plymouth to ride your Air Ambulane run & I will next year too But Ive got this planned for 2012 in aid POPPY APPEAL this one is massive .The actual route will follow as we are still planning it .

THE MADRIDER TARMAC CHALLENGE
It is what it says on the can. The ride will start from Plymouth. I will then be visiting all RAF, ARMY, NAVY, MOD and USAF bases in England, Scotland and Wales. The ride name was changed from the 2012 Runway Challenge to the 2012 Tarmac Challenge, after the MOD thought that by doing this we would be able to get a better response from other bases. So, we will now be doing the 2012 ride on much bigger scale.  This year (2011) saw me visit 26 bases; with the 2012 event we are looking to visit at least 62 bases.

The Ride will be over 10 days and will take place between the 5July and 15 July 2012. The event will be in aid of the Riders Branch of the RBLR Poppy Appeal.

I will have a support crew on this ride so we can collect donations en-route. I would like to get as many clubs involved as possible  with this ride if possible, and hopefully lots of  media coverage.

The estimated mileage will be about 4,000 miles, as we will be doing a lot of zig- zagging across the country especially in Lincolnshire, Kent and Norfolk.  I am working with the RBLR Riders Branch and Plymouth Forces Careers Office.  I will be setting up a bank account as well as ‘Justgiving account’.

The bike I will be riding will be my own CG 125cc motorbike.  The support vehicle has been donated by Plymouth Sea Cadets and is a 2.6 Tranist minibus.

The route has taken some planning, and I would like to thank everyone who has helped me with this.
5 July 2012-Start at HMS Drake, we then ride to HMS Raleigh then RAF St Mawgan, taking the AtlanticCoast route to Barnstaple and RAF Chivenor, the A361 to Norton Manor at Taunton, and the A38 to Bristol. We then move into South Wales with the last base for the day being St Athens. We will then be staying with friends of mine in Cardiff.
6 July 2012 - Will see us travelling to MOD Stratford, RAF Cosford .RAF Shawbury, Army Ternhill, RAFValley where we ride the runway at the end of day two.
7 July 2012- Traveling out of Wales, this day is not very active.  We will be visiting Fullwood Barracks in Preston then North to HMS Gannet.  (If anyone knows of any other bases on that day please message me). This is one of the longest riding days, approximately 400 miles.
8 July 2012 -Taking the road towards Erskin Bridge we then travel to Loch Lomond and the  A82 /A85/A827/A9 and A95 heading for RAF Kinloss and RAF Lossiemouth. We then take the A96 to Aberdeen and then the A90 to RM Condor. This will end the north bound part of our journey and we will then be heading south bound.
9 July 2012 - RAF Leuchers will be our first stop of the day, we then head for Edinburgh and the A1 to RAF Boulmer and Army Ouston, near Newcastle. Then we will get back onto the A1 and head for Marne Barracks/ RAF Leeming, Army Topcliffe, Army Dishforth. We will be ending the day a RAF Linton-on-Ouse. We will be riding the runway there and staying the night.
10 July 2012 - RAF Church Fenton, York Air Museum, RAF Leaconfeild then the A164 to the  A15 and  RAF Waddington, .RAF Scampton, RAF Conningsby to the Avro Air Museum near East Kirby. We then head back in land to RAF Barkston Heath, to RAF Cranwell where we will stop.
11 July 2012 – Our first port of call will be Army Liffenham, then onto RAF Wittering (for a Runway ride). We then head for RAF Marham, followed by a visit to two USAF bases namely, Midenhall and Lakenheath. We then head for Army Sutton Heath, Rock Barracks (Woodbridge), ACC Wattisham, Army Waterbeach Barracks, with RAF Huntingdon. being our last stop of the day.

12 July 2012– Our first stop of the day will be USAF Alconbury, followed by RAF Henlow, RAF Northolt, Sandhust (MilitaryAcademy)/Aldershot, RAF Oldiham, RAF Benson, RAF Abingdon.
13 July 2012 - RAF Weston-on-the-Green, Army Upper Heyford, USAF Croughton, USAF Fairford, and our final stop of the day being RAF Brize Norton.
14 July 2012 -  Wootton Bassett, RAF Lyneham, RAF Steeple Ashton, MOD Boscombe Down, ACC Middle Wallop, Bulford Barracks, and Larkhill Barracks.
15 July 2012 - MOD Westdown Camp, then the A303/A350 to Blandford Camp, followed by the A350/A357/A303 to RNAS Yeovilton. Then we take the A303 to the A30, B3180 to Exmouth and the A376 Lympstone. We then take the A376, A38, turning off at Lee Mill for Bickleigh. We are then on the run to Citadel Barracks thenStonehouse Barracks finish off the ride at Admiralty House at Mount Wise in Plymouth, where there will be a Fun Day at Mount Wise ‘Village by the Sea’ with a few other things happening

Cheers

to do that journey is a real challenge,  to do it on a CG125.... well, hat off to you mate.   Will keep my eye out for more details as the ride gets nearer.
All the best of luck.
Yes, everyone else maybe melting to death on the roads but not us! Because we have a car with hair conditioner! I mean what in the name of sanity did they think we want it for? To make sure that the roof rack is more shiny and managable?
