Cheers for the heads up DHD.  I've seen mixed answers on the whole retuning things.  Some websites claim their cans don't need retuning, some say maybe, some say nothing.  I think its gonna be a suck it and see jobbie.

My bike is carbed, so I spose I won't incur the price of a PC or anything, just a set of jets if necessary.

dont buy a scorpion one buy an akrapovic or a remus that way you wont need to remap the fuelling as both those makes are designed to just be bolted on and work fine.

if you put a scorpion on you may find a flat spot appears or the bike feels fluffy. thats only a maybe .

but it works out cheaper to buy an akrapovic than to buy a scorpion and a power commander and dyno run.

i had a remus on my 03 r1 and twin akrapovic on the 05 R1 and an akrapovic on the 07 Fazer

Before buying my Scorpions and done a bit of looking around before getting them, and found the FZ6 Forum. And after checking out there mods sections, where various topics were being discussed about different types of aftermarket exhausts.

And what I found was I did not need a remapping of the fuel or install a PC, all that was required was to unplug the battery whilst fitting, so this would reset the EFI

I did not get the whole system, just the Y-piece and slip on cans. I might of needed remapping if I went for the whole system eliminating the cat. I am not sure, to be honest I don't know. I am learning as I go along. So I may be talking bollocks.

According to the Scorpion website, you "just fit and ride".

Well the can came today, 3 weeks ahead of schedule 

Stuck it on, took the baffle out and went for a ride...  Haven't stopped grinning yet!

I've heard this quoted a few times and the theory is sound, haven't tried in practice so i don't know if it actually works.

The ECU 'learns' and retains the information for how much fuel/air etc is needed for different conditions, throttle openings, temperatures etc. To reset this information you are supposed to disconnect the battery for something like 24 hours to make suure that the system including temporary battery back up is completely dead.

Then after you've fitted your new cans, connect the battery back up then go and ride it hard like you stole it, straight from the off. It's now learning a new set of parameters for your new 'free flowing' system.

Sounds good but personally if i was changing more than a set of cans i'd be looking to adjust the fueling correctly.

In relation to ecu's and learning , yes disconnect the battery only for a  hour  is fine or 24hrs if thats how yamahas work , but start the bike WITHOUT TOUCHING THE THROTTLE AND LEAVE IT IDLE FOR 15 MINS !!! without touching the throttle or anything else , then it will relearn

This is the tried and tested method for Ktm superduke and Rc8's .

Also the lamda sensor's  on modern bikes will cope with a can bolt on , most are narrow band lambda's  and they send a signal to the ecu .

The ecu will throw a rich map at the fuelling when its disconnected completely in most cases , but when fitting a free flow filter cans or full system its best to a dyno run  done to be sure , to be sure to be sure

Anyways, it seems to be running OK to my untrained ears.  There's no loud popping on the over run or anything.  A little bit of a burble at low speeds but thats it.
