trip to the RING. End of Summer 2011
« on: June 19, 2010, 10:19:32 AM »
Hi guys and girls.

I am heading off to the Nurburgring in 2011.

I was supposed to go last year, but that never happened :( (probably best)

I will be booking travel tickets and hotels coming the end of this summer, I would like to invite you all to come with, and so i thought best pre-warn you so come august/september when i ask those to stump up some cash.

accommodation - You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

The plan.

Day 1 leave wales and head towards the south coast of england on pre-selected roads and stay over in a B&B around brighton  :sma

Day 2 - leave uber early for our pre-booked train over to france, and head off through france towards the land of the germans. Get to the hotel where we will be staying for 4  nights.

Day 3, head off for a bimble around some fantastic german roads, possibly head towards the alps, the usual ride out stuff.

Day 4, Full day at the ring. this will usually be a sunday, however im hoping we can find a week where there are two full days, in case of bad weather

Day 5, this will be another day of joyfull riding around germany, (although you will be free to do as you please)

Day 6 - pack up and head back into france to catch our train home, get off in england and stay in pre-booked hotel.

Day 7 - return home.

I anticipate the trip to cost a few quid, so only come if you can justify the expense.

These are not accurate costs, i am just guestimating at present

Budget - £250 for accomodation, £100 - £200 for fuel. £200 new set of tyres. £250 spends and £250 for unforseen costs.

Dont forget insuring your bike to go around the ring would either be bloody expensive or not possible. You will need european insurance and have to make sure you have get you home break down.

if anyone is interested let me know.

As this develoops more details will follow, fuzz i know you have been, anything i have missed out?

as with everything if I have any miracle amount of cash lying around at that time I'll be in
Unlikely but you never know....

Pay £40 for Nurburgring insurance (I can find the policy name if you want)

It is worth it if the worse happens.  I went 2 years ago and my mate John crashed and lost his leg and nearly died.
Chamz and DHD met him last week at Pembrey.  If it wasn't for his £40 'ring policy he'd have been screwed when it came to medical care etc

Anyway not to put a dampener on things!
Germany and especially the Eifel region is beautiful.  Enjoy  :thumbsup

Would be interested, but the end of this summer is waaay too early for me to commit to anything.  Don't know what I'll be doing in the next three months, let alone next year  :rofl

May try and tag along though later on, depending on how things go  :thumb_up

As Pope says above, don't under estimate the importance of ensuring you have third party insurance.

The costs of damage to your own bike are utterly trivial compared to the third party costs you can mount up, on top of any medical care you may need. Get it in writing from your insurance company that third party is covered, or find a specialist company.

Remember it's a public road (only overtake on the left etc.) and you can still get prosecuted under German traffic laws, but not for speeding obviously  :thumb_up

May be up for this myself but it's a bit too far in the future to make any plans at the moment.

Plan this carefully Rob. Ideally, if im going, it wont be for faffing about on the roads, but to get as much time on the Ring as possible. If you are a new biker to the Ring, YOU DO NOT want to be going round there on a saturday or a sunday, its ram packed and carnage sometimes. The Ring opening times can be found on the nordshliffer / nurburgring website. You ideally want to plan to get 3 evenings in on the ring mid week, and then use the mornings to go pottering around. Use a Sunday and Monday to travel over, Tues, Weds and Thurs at the Ring, then Fri, Sat to come back.  If there aint too many going, I can sort out accomodation in Kent or Margate.

Sliders guesthouse is a reasonable, no frills place to stay with Brendon, who had the lap record around there. He will also take you out for sight seeing laps, and give you some pointers, and will also take you out on the roads. Its relaxed, laid back, informal and a good laugh there.

Insurance..... I think I found full cover for about £20..... Cant remember with who, but I'll look into it.

Let me know if you wanna know anything.

Went there last year and it was 23Euros per feckin lap  :eek  :eek And it is feckin chaos+carnage. One of the guys in our group got taken out by someone else on another bike 5 corners after going out on the circuit. It is a feckin awesome thing too do but its very intimidating with some of the fast cars out there at the same time........
