LoginBlood Bikes Wales has been set up to transport urgent medical items between hospitals and medical centres.
It aims to cover the whole of South Wales, delivering everything from blood to frozen breast milk.
Charity chairman Chris Thomas, 47, of Robinson Street, was motivated to set up Blood Bikes Wales by his experiences as a biker.
The scheme, which currently has 62 members, is expected to be up and running early next year.
The father-of-two said: "In my past I have needed operations after bike accidents and I thought it's time to give something directly back to the NHS — namely my time.
"The money that we can save the NHS on transport fees can be used elsewhere to benefit people in other ways.
"It will cost us £35,000 a year to run, and we will need money to buy at least five more bikes before then.
"So we are constantly fundraising — places like Tesco and Asda have been great, and it's nice that so many people are getting behind the charity.
"As well as funds, we also need riders, fundraisers and coordinators to come forward to help."
To donate to the charity by text message, send RIDE07, then the donation amount to 70070.
The charity is also in the running to win a Natwest Community Force award. To vote, visit You are not allowed to view links.
