Car drivers on the motorway:

"Wtf!!! God damn bikers in the way, wtf...ffs Move!"

Car drivers after being held up on motorway:

"F...ing bikers. Oh god another one, well he can bugger right off." *swerves to block filtering biker*

Motorcyclists after protest:

"yay! So much turn out! We really helped our cause and voices be heard!!!"

Majority of road users after protest:

"did you get stuck in that retarded motorcyclist traffic nightmare the other day? Bloody nuisance on our roads, anyone know what it was about?"

National Radio after protest:

"sally traffic: captain bilko had called in to say that whatever event was going on today looks like it's finished and the roads are beginning to return to normal"

Bikers mags after protest:

"great success!"

General papers:

"violence continues in libya..."

Unless the MAG are planning on finding a way of communicating why you're doing this to the common public. This protest will mean nothing to anyone except people who already subscribe to it.

I've yet to see any major advertising in mainstream media, I've been spammed to the point of apathy and beyond into mild nauseating annoyance in everything bike related, but if I asked my parents or friends if they knew about the upcoming protest they'd say "what protest?".

So, MAG... How exactly are you making voices heard on the day?

National radio debates?

non column based journalistic articles?

Television appearances?

Placards? (not really convenient for riding)

loudhailers? (to yell incomprehensible words at irate motorists, over the sound of loud pipes (coz they save lives ;) ) and stereos)

What's planned to make this protest worth my time, rather than just sitting at home and writing a letter to my MEP/MP/WIMC?

Not that I would but I trust every attendee would.

Especially as the cost of:
Paper + stamp + ink <<< petrol for a go slow.

LOL,   Welcome to the world of Meldrews,  all that needed was an,  "I don't believe it"!   :rofl
Take to one knee, I place my sword on each shoulder and you're now officially a Knight of Victor.

It's bloody good to have a good rant to get things off ones chest you must agree,  bloody Nazis the lot of them on both sides of the bloody water.   :rofl  (personal joke for Bloke)

Yes, everyone else maybe melting to death on the roads but not us! Because we have a car with hair conditioner! I mean what in the name of sanity did they think we want it for? To make sure that the roof rack is more shiny and managable?

Lisa and I will be there, trying to convince her to travel up the A48 and the link road on her L plates then leave her bike at the services while she jumps on the back of mine to go on the M4, so far it's not working! lol

Plenty of pedestrians are seriously injured or killed by cars, are they going to make us all wear hi-viz when walking to the shops as well! Its pathetic! :roll_eyes

To be honest, bloke does have a point, however, I still feel its worth showing the government and RSA that we have an opinion on this, even if the general public dont know the reasons behind! And besides, the public wont be inconvenienced by the protest much. The roads will be generally quiet and the protest wont use all lanes on the motorway so cars can just overtake!

Even if it does become compulsory to wear hi-viz, will you? Plenty of us have tiny number plates, non legal exhausts, tinted visors etc but we still go out regardless! The way I see it, unless they have enough police to enforce this then it will just be forgotten about and most of us will get a friendly roadside chat on road safety!

If it does become law it will become self Policing inasmuch as if you decide not to wear Hi Viz and you get hit off your insurance company will drop you like a hot potato. You won't get a payout regardless of who is at fault.

So if it comes in, it comes in for all of us.

Very true but one other aspect worries me, has anyone realised that this will probably involve the purchase of a new Motorcycle Jacket if it does come in?

Why you may ask?  Well, in the summer I wear a textile jacket that has lots of nice zippy things on my chest, arms and back area that allow a wonderful cooling airflow around my hot and sweaty torso (that's if we're having a good summer.)  If I am required to wear full sleeve Hi-Viz this 'over jacket' will effectively cover all these nice vents and defeat the whole purpose of them.  Therefore, in order to keep cool in the summer I will have to buy a Hi-Viz motorcycle jacket with lots of zippy things in it!

Now as you know, despite their best efforts so far, the manufacturers of Hi-Viz clothing have yet to find a fabric that remains clean or is easy to clean. Even if it is cleanable, in my experience washing the jacket removes its waterproof properties and, despite various in-wash or spray-on products, it never keeps its original weather protection. And because this will be a relatively 'new' thing, can you imagine the cost?

Now with an ordinary jacket, I and Mr. Plod would never know if my jacket is dirty or not, and probably wouldn't care.  But what about Hi-Viz?  If it is dirty and I refuse to wash it, am I going to be prosecuted for having dirty clothing that is no longer 'visible' or 'reflective'?  Will they have equipment that measures how 'visible' or 'reflective' the clothing is and will this mean a limit below which you would be prosecuted, or would it be down to individual opinion or judgement.

IMHO, if this ever comes in over here it is going to open a whole can of worms.
