The original 98 widowmaker will cost a fortune ,your more likely to find a 99 or 2000 model for that price ,dont expect too much though

Mines a 2000 carbed version which I picked up for £1,500 with 35,000 on it. In all fairness the bike had been looked after, and just needed a bit of spit and polish here and there....... oh ok, and 150 quids worth of Pro Bolt shit. :thumb_up

But I think you will be hard pressed to find one at that price. Seems I was in the right place at the right time. I found a 2000 model red/white and black on Ebay which was pretty local. It had 11,000 genuine miles on it, was in mint condition with some extras, and he was asking £2,600 for it.

If your mate could budget for about the £2,500 mark, it would make finding what he wanted far easier.  I will keep an eye out though.  :tup2

The original 4XV's (from 1998 & 1999) fetch strong money now.

I really wish I hadn't sold mine for £1300  :eek
Although the subframe was bent after a big crash and the mint red&white original bodywork was destroyed and replaced with track stuff.

in 2000 the rev limit dropped and they dropped the power/torque off a bit, which seems like an odd 'development'  :shocked

I really miss mine.  Best bike I ever owned.

Just read up on the development of the 98 r1's and so on.

The over all peak power of the 2000 - 2001 did not drop from the original one, it stayed the same. What they did do was drop the weight of the bike (not by much), but also changed the jetting and the air intake. This created slightly more torque lower in the rev range, but not so much up top. It gave the newer version a more linear torque curve throughout the range. I supose they did to make it more appealing and easier to ride for the masses.  Which, I supose takes a bit of the 'up top' edgyness away from the original............. but its still fookin nuts!  :sweat

Well just to update, if your patient enough what you want will come along
He just bought a 98 red seat model 18k on the clock for £2200 and only 10 minuets from his house.
