i can see your point fuzz, however look at the 19 hundreds, to do 100mph in a car was not imagineable, then breaking 200mph, most family cars can do 120.....

i do believe at the moment they are at the limit of grip. perhaps the superstock is just a very well balanced tool, having the extra horsepower on the superbike may not be useful?

I can see your point (as i explained that in the previous posts), but you are missing my point.

Yes when Mr Ford invented the Model T or whatever. People must have thought 'feck me thats fast', but then it evolved..........Things got quicker, then racing started, then technology got involved and it really started to snowball.

But apart from electronics and little gizmos to help the bikes these days, don't you think that compared to lap times tumbling year after year, and records being set all the time, don't you think the progression as far as bikes are concerned is now slowing down, not the bikes themselves, but the development as to getting them to lap the TT faster.....

Take a top spec machine nowadays. 200+ bhp, best tyres ever made, and best suspension that can possible grace a bike.  Now there is no point increasing horsepower, as they know they cant get it down onto the road, thats down to tyres.... Also the suspension going around the TT, even though it is the best they can get, is also at its limits.....

So as far as technology and progression goes.  Can anyone see anything radical happening to our current Superbikes, that is going to help them break, lets say, an average of 140mph???  Cause I cant. And thats my point. As far as the TT average lap speed is concerned, are we nearly at the limit now with bikes we are sort of accustomed to????

yes mate i agree with you.

the 140mph mark looks to be a impossible task at present.

With power, again thats a fair point, giving the bikes more straight line speed, but they would have to slow to the same speed for the corners.

In the future either the TT will be stopped because of Health and Saftey, the bikes will be capped so they can not go any faster (group B rallying anoyone) so it is unlikely they will ever get to 140mph a lap, or faster anyway, even if the technology existed.

Its all about defying the laws of physics. The forces that are involved in moving an object at speed are the barriers that need to be broken in order to make that object move even faster. They need to keep making the machines lighter, more aerodynamic and more powerful, but in order to keep the machine on the road and in the direction its meant to, means better brakes  and better handling, more grippy tyres and maybe even an improvement of the road conditions on the island! Dont forget these are public roads and carry many hazards, kerbs, drain covers, oil spills, bumps! All these factors may cause a rider to take a different line (which may not be the quickest) or power of to stop the front lifting in some areas!

I dont believe in the current climate there will be any significant jumps in average speed simply because a) the technology may not exist, b) teams dont have the money to spend on new technology and c) rules and regs of the TT wont allow it!

You only have to look at the MotoGP for example, each year the circuit record gets broken, maybe only marginally, but it still means that the machines are getting faster year on year! I believe one day the ave lap of the TT course will hit 140 mph but then they'll need to find someone loopy enough to pilot the thing!! :shocked

The introduction of 2-Wheel drive is likely to have some effect on the speed of cornering at some stage

perhaps, but i dont think it will have the same effect it has with a  4wd car.

the bike still has to lean, and unless the tyre technology advances quickly, leaning any further isnt possible, nor would be carrying any more speed through a particular bend.

imagine wheeling a 2wd bike.

I dont understand this 2 wheel drive shit. Not on superbikes anyway. I can see a point to a degree on crossers and the like, but not a superbike.
How will it work?? If you are hard into a corner trailing the front brake, would there be some sort of drive still going to it?? Then getting off the brakes at maximum lean, the tyre on its limit, you would then expect it to cope with drive aswell?????  :scratch

I really cant see how 2wd can improve front end grip...........  Would it make the bike run a tighter line? Or push it wide?  Bearing in mind they would be at maximum lean, getting on the gas............... U dunno. Dont comprehend in Fuzz land. :scratch

i think it's to do with the front driving as opposed to being pushed. The rear copes with loads of power when on the gas, so I suppose the front could happily cope with a lot less. Probably doesn't drive while the brakes are on but I don't really know what the f*ck I'm on about :scratch
