F*ck me gently!.....if that lot had let go at  the speeds you are talking about, there would have been some mess particularly in the underpants region.  Were that type of potential failure to be found in other motors, they would have to recall a shit-load of bikes.  If they don’t play ball you might want to talk about sending the pictures to the motorcycle press.

Like I said.... Im going to put my case accros in a diplomatic way first, and see if they are prepared to listen and appreciate what could have gone on here....

Then I'll start thinking about other measures.... But it aint good dood.... Noooooo it aint good!

Gulp!!!! Can I make a suggestion? Being a inspector both in aerospace and petrol chemical world go through the yellow pages and find a company specialising in Non destructive testing and get a dye pentetrant test carried out on the remaining pistons and a Mag particle inspection of the remaining gudgeon pins to check for cracks you can't see with the naked eye.

I must admit I'm really scared now I've only gone and brought a Sprint ST 1050 yesterday!!!!!!!!

Gulp  :eek

Fuzzrr, see if you can get Triumph to tell you what bikes may be affected by this batch of pins. There's a few Triumph owners on here, including me. who would like to know if theirs is the next one to go.

Andy.
The instructions said "Use Windows XP or greater" so I installed Linux!
A Life? Cool! Where can I download one of those?

Dozz

I work in the quality department making engine components, i.e, tappet buckets and bearings etc.  If needs be I could get the remaining ones tested, and also the hardness values on the culprit.  Although, I am going to stress to Triumph that I am not now totally confident in the other pins in the engine. I will be seeking replacements.

Hmm. I wonder what failed first? Gudgeon pin snapping which would kanacker the piston, or piston cracking which would rattle pin into failing???

Hope to see you back up and running again soon Fuzzr  :thumb_up

Hope you have some joy with Triumph try and find out if any one has had similar probs ( triumph owners club might help )
If I were you I'd change all the pistons and check if there's any damage to con rods. Could have been much worst.

Good luck today Fuzzrr - hope you get some sense out them.

I've seen your Trumpet down Mumbles when we met a few weeks back, and it is in gorgeous condition mate - there's no way anyone could say you neglected it.

(I dare say you probably wrap it in a blanket to sleep in overnight?  :thumb_up)

Seriously though, this is shite news, but hope you sort it soon fella.

to be honest did this problem arrive before or after the cam tensioner incident, the have been lots of cases of bottom ends letting go, but if she'd jumped a tooth these are high revving bikes and the clearances are minimal, if it connected somethings gotto give.

hope you sort it out mate and if its still in or near warranty some good will should be in order.

i going to add this link to my triumph site as i think it needs to be seen if its ok with you.

Phoned Triumph....... And, they dont want to know.
They are basically saying that because it was not serviced by Triumph, then its not covered.

Although looking at it. The first 2 services were done by Triumph, and the third was done by a qualified mechanic, out of the warranty period.

Think I need to get some proper advice on this tbh.

Phoned Triumph....... And, they dont want to know.

Surprise surprise!  :handjob ers

They're not going to admit liability as they dont want to put their hands in their pockets!

Write a letter matey, you'll get a better result. Include details of the service history along with dates and bikes milage at each interval. Also state that you telephoned (include time and date, plus names of who you spoke to), and that you were not satisfied with the response you got, hence the letter of complaint. Include some pics and most importantly, tell them what you from them (try to be resonable by making a comprimise, they supply parts and you'll pay for fitting, etc.). Then explain that you are prepared to take it further, if they cannot close the complaint to your satisfaction. It may just make them sit up and listen!

Once you've done that, consult trading standards and citizens advice, as it will be useful amunition for further correspondence!

Good luck matey.
