Would I be right in thinking that there is no more rear wheel because it was magnesium? Are they allowed to use magnesium wheels?

Anyone know?

On the superbikes, yeah they can use what they want. But it looks like the spokes have snapped, and then the rim has left the tyre, rather than melted away.

Can't see a tank on the bike in the pics of it parked up?  :scratch

and since the thing flying through the air is on fire, i'm guessing it was filled with petrol ........

Pretty sure they all use Dymag/Marchesini magnesium stuff on the superbikes

No one uses carbon fibre on the roads anymore after Robert Dunlops' "little" off a few years back due to a rear wheel failure (carbon fibre brand Marvic)
