Good old riding, clothing, helmets & accessories tips
« on: March 19, 2010, 04:27:09 PM »
TC got me thinking today about tips/tricks we all know & maybe have not shared with your fellow bikers
Of course you'd share if asked  so lets get them all posted up

**NO OFF TOPIC POSTS PLEASE**

They can be any tips/tricks related to motorcycles & motorcycling

Do you know any home made fixes?

Cheap fixes?

While we are in a recession every penny counts

Once we have a few pages I'll move them to another section & sticky it

Ill go first

"If you have a visor that mists up while riding a top tip is to squirt some good old fairy liquid on it while its dry & using a dry cloth rub it in until all gone & they bluff to a shine

You can use this both on the inside & outside of the visor to get better vision & less misting"

If you have any compartments on your bike, carry a small bottle of window cleaner (59p for a bottle in boots) and a cloth, whe you get covered in flies and the like you can stop at your leisure and give your visor a good scrub down.

How about keeping a tenner in some place in your bike clothing or even in a plastic bag taped under the bike-seat. (I found a handy fold between the velcro on my boots). As long as you resist spending it at Terry's on a bacon roll then you'll be really grateful it's there next time you're out of fuel and have forgotton your wallet.

The instructions said "Use Windows XP or greater" so I installed Linux!

Do you know those disposable gloves they use on the diesel pumps? Pinch a couple of pairs and keep em under ya seat. Next time your caught out in a shower in your summer gloves put them on underneath them. Hands nice and dry and helps keep the cold out.

When you’ve finished your ride, if your helmet n visor are covered in flies, put a damp cloth over the surface – leave it there for 5 mins then when you take it off, most of the flies will come off with it, n those that don’t can be wiped off easily without scratching the visor.
The same works for the front of the bike too.

Dont use washing up liquid for visor cleaning,it contains a few nasties that fuck up the clarity of the visor.use a proper visor cleaner, that way you can go back and sue the firm if anything fucks up your lid.

Also don't use washing up liquid on your bike to wash it

It contains salt which dulls the paint and isn't good for the bike

If you are stopped by the law for that, ahem... minor traffic infringement, claim you're from Moldova and 'don't speaka de Englishhhh' having been transported here against your will by an organised gang of people traffickers!

Sure to increase your chances of being let of due a) to the sympathy vote or b) a necessity to avoid unnecessary paperwork by Mr Plod.

Worked for me... honest!

On a more serious note...

After a ride, get that bike up on it's rear paddock stand/centre stand and lube da chain... the oils and lubricants (ooo, errrr Missus), penetrate and protect better (sounds like an advert for Mobil 1), when the load bearing surfaces and contact points of the chain are nicely warmed-up.

Prolongs chain life and saves ££££ - just bought a new chain for my 'Fighter - an AFAM 530 XSR... crazy expensive!

When returning to biking dont be a Twat and try to keep up with your mates as even a low speed spill will rip a hole in the elbow of your new Dinese leathers and cost you for a new rear bake lever.
plus your mate take the piss.
