Car tyres
« on: July 28, 2009, 07:36:53 PM »
I decided to clean my car last week and then thought I`d go the whole hog and see if I could put air in the tyres too, having never done it before. :help :help :help

I looked up the pressures in my little hand book and off I went.
When I put the gauge on the valves it read around 36 for all 4 of them.
My little book said 23...so I let the air out untill it reached 23.

Trouble is now...it`s driving like shit!!
I just skidded around the corner coming down to my house.
I`m sure it can`t be right!!

Wish i never bothered now :no :no :no :no :no

Maybe a dodgy guage Rosie. Drive carefully to your local garage I reckon and have them put the air in. Ask them to put your guage on the valves when they've finished to see if it's acurate.

And these are just for you  :flowers

no cars i've ever driven have tyre pressure that low! usually between 32 and 38,

perhaps you mixed up 23 with 32?

i always opt for a couple of psi above to ensure less wall movement and to suit my driving style

Polo is roughly about the same size as a Focus and mine takes 32 psi all round.

Rosie - you sure the manual didn't give tyre pressures for different sized tyres as some cars can have different sized tyres on them, for instance, the Ford Galaxy can have 4 different sized tyres on it and tyre pressures range etc ??

did you check the tyre sizes you have on now (on the tyre wall, will be sommit like 165/65 R16) against what your manual tyre size is that you've just read the pressure for ?

What year is your polo as most cars have the tyre pressures on the drivers door pillar or in the fuel filler door.
