You wont get much better than a KTM 625 or 640Lc. Both have electric starts and have good reliability,i had a Honda Xr650r and tho it was an absolute beast of a moto.I had to spend stupid amounts of money to get it the way :banghead Ive now got a KTM 950SM and its bonkers but i dont think its winter hack material, but we'll soon find out. :rock

i've taken a fancy to the suzuki DR-Z 400sm recently.... looks ok, is cheap and harder to loose your licence on than a 600cc+ bike

get a full review of wildcat :fish

i think it's a great 1st bike for some1 like me who's small and light..  :scooter but if i was taller and 2 stone heavier i'd defffooooo go 4  one of the KTM sm's :winkiss

mongo had a quick go on my drz he couldn't get over how fast it actually was  :shock...

If you're into balls out no compromise track action they'd be just the ticket.

How often do they need rebuilding/servicing though?
