The worst bit was that i was only plodding along about 65, caught a slow car up , waited to clear the side roads then squirted round it, so guess they must have been hiding near the Sennybridge end somewhere, never seen them parked along there since.
I always sit around 65 along there now and often have bikes flying past that ive already passed miles back lol

Sounds like the same c*&t who nicked me a while back over the beacons in a plain volvo. Don't believe his gun reading as I think it is on that permanently. I cruised past him at 60 and stuck to the limit down the following straight with him still parked up. Once out of sight and round a bend I opened it up to overtake a few cars. A few miles on I could see blue lights in the mirror and he pulled me showing me his gun at 86 saying he had me going down the straight. No fu&*ing way did he, but what could I do? He said it was 3 points off him of at least 6 if I go to court and a higher fine. I was over a barrell but it was a complete 'con' and I was minded to contest it and report him, but I knew they would believe him not me (I know how they all stick together) but this is just not fair and what he did, and no doubt has continued to do, is unjust, unfair, fraudulent and completely wrong. But the Police are untouchable as we know.

Thankfully the courts aren't controlled by the police. I'd have challenged it if I thought I wasn't doing the speed indicated.

I heard 86mph is when it's magistrates court time anyway?

The thresholds are here:

If you're on an ordinary single carriageway road (60mph limit), 86 is enough for court (just).

I don't quite get this....  There are millions of people out there who ARE actually speeding.  Why would the Police bother making it up that you are when you are not.

I served as a Traffic Cop on the bikes for many years and not once did I ever have to pretend that someone who wasn't speeding, was.

There is enough work to do with the ones who are putting other peoples lives at risk without wasting time on the ones who are riding or driving within the limit.

There are no league tables, there's no promotion for more tickets, so it just doesn't make sense.

If you are as sure as you say that you weren't doing that speed and you still accepted the fine.............. Did you drop your trousers and bend over for him as well?

If you give your money away that easily....... Can I have sixty quid......

Cheers.

Well I can assure you 100% that he did not actually clock me speeding. Do you really seriously think that I would have had any chance in court, as it would have been his word against mine. I work with 3 serving magistrates and each said that if presented with a statement from a police officer against the word of a biker they would be very unlikely to go with the biker. Their advice was take the 3 points and pay up! It wasn't a decision I took lightly and was really pi**ed off that I had been 'conned' in this way. And I certainly don't buy the 'why would he make it up' argument, I'm not that naive as there are 'rotten apples' in every barrel. I am sure that there are upstanding and dedicated officers (and they can do a very difficult and stressful job at times)  but you have to accept that there are also some pretty rude, arrogant and condesending bast**ds aswell, as I have met a few in my time!

Just as a matter of interest, if he was using a version of VASCAR (a time/distance computer) all he needs is a start location and a finish location, both visual. The computer does the rest, the result is average speed. You could go round 100 corners between those points and overtake a dozen cars, the device doesn't care.

It was just a clunky looking hand held speed gun with a digital readout, no photo, no time/distance, no video, nothing. He probably had it on the same speed all day, watches a sports bike cruise past, hears the  bike accelerating once out of sight, knows he's likely to being going over 60 and not watching his speedo (as its far more important to concentrate on the road and potential hazards etc), sets off and follows him and pulls him in, shows him the reading and says you should really go to court bcos ur more than 20mph over the limit but then offers you 3 points & £60 (as he did with me) u are minded to accept and get on your way. Another one in the bag for him and his tally for the day increases and no doubt his standing with his superiors so he can show how effective he is! We all know how it works but its just not cricket!

Buggers were out in force at the weekend, Brecons, Llandovery etc. Came out of West End Cafe, thought I'd try the Llandeilo road, hit a straight gave it a blip and saw a grey BMW at what I thought was a junction so slowed in case of a pull out. Tw@t came straight out after me and pulled me in. He said when he took the first reading it was 95mph but his second one was only 80, (in a 60), and so it was better for me to accept that and take the 3 points.

I probably hit 80 for a sec but thought he was bullsh!tting with the rest of his spiel, can't see how he had the time etc. My question is, when I asked him if they had to put camera signs up, he said no, only in built up areas. A mate said he saw loads of cops up there on Sunday too, so I hope I haven't got any surprises in the post coming too!

Ride safe.

Fair play... Lumberjack's been banging-on about an increased Police presence and zero tolerance tactics in these areas for a while now. With a few bikers down, some even fatal, in a short space of time - it's probably gonna stay this way for the rest of the year.

Plenty of other roads/routes... BUT to properly blow away the cobwebs, best go the trackday route. As stupid as it seems, I spend more time these days glancing at the speedo on my Daytona, than I do looking at the road ahead! It wasn't anywhere near this crazy 5-10 years back - but as bikers, what can we do?

 :thumb_down

I'm sceptical about the 'accuracy' of some of these handheld devices too (as well as the tactics employed by certain coppers) - it wasn't that long ago that the Police were forced to admit that certain of them (can't recall actual name of device), hadn't even been tested/developed for use on bikes! I was expecting a benchmark legal 'test case', then the flood gates to open - but as yet, nothing.

If anyone has reason to believe that the readings are inaccurate (in the event that court is the only route), they can request a copy of the calibration log of the particular device used, along with the OEM 's recommendations to maintain accuracy.
