Has the tax camera got me?

Was heading back up the A48 near Ammanford earlier today and there was a DVLA car with camera setup on the side of the road checking for untaxed cars.

I bought a new car on Monday and the tax ran out yesterday.
I've not got the log book or insurance documents yet to tax the car 

If I try doing it online the tax disc will go to the old owners!

I'm just wondering if I'll be getting a fine through the post

I think you may get an automated fine, well the previous owners will if the log book is still in their name. They'll have to dispute it stating that they sold the car, the DVLA will then get in touch with you. I believe you have 14 days grace to apply for the licence but they will check that you've submitted an application to them!

However, the DVLA are shite and change their rules all the time so all of the above may well be tripe!

Alternatively you could say that you've not been to that area and the vehicle has been sat outside your house, must be cloned plates!

I doubt if you will but you shouldn't be driving untaxed anyway all you had to do was tax it at a post office when you bought it then send the log book off afterwards

Not heard that so my insurance company obviously don't

yeah i got told with my bike insurance they dont send it out they email and you gotta print off but could be different

These days the dvla and insurance database are linked so if you buy tax online it automatically checks if you have insurance when you renew it, always has when ive done it for the bike online.

go to the dvla in cardiff (llanishen) and just tell them the situation and say you are there to buy a tax disc for the car if they wont let you then at least ask for proof you have attempted to tax it, just in case.

It does check, but its not ALWAYS up to date, as i found out when I tried to retax my car, said i had no insurance, when i had paid it in full previous week!!

the 14 days grace is no longer in force,    it is up to the boys in blue if they catch you on the road without tax,their discression im afraid,    as someone said no tax means [ insurance void ] if u have an accident
