Covert camera bike in North Wales
« on: July 09, 2010, 05:56:12 PM »
This just posted on MCN website:

North Wales Police has added an unmarked Yamaha FJR1300 to its fleet of bikes used to target speeding motorcyclists.
The 150mph Yamaha is equipped with hidden cameras. Offenders may not know they’ve been caught until they receive notification by post.
Supt Simon Shaw said: ‘It’s unmarked but we’re trying to be open, we want to people to know we’ve got it.
“If it’s dangerous for us to follow a biker, we’ll let them go and chase it up once we’ve got the registration number and got them on camera.”
The force this year announced an end to random stops of hundreds of bikers every weekend after 10,000 MCN readers descended on the region in protest.

I sometimes wonder if it's still worth getting on the bike!  This is not policing it's extortion by menaces.
How long before other forces follow suit?

If they want to be "open" and want people to "know we've got it". Why don't they mark it up instead of leaving it unmarked :scratch

If I ever see a bike or car gaining on me, I slow down and let them pass so that I can look for any tell-tell signs before repassing them.WhenI come up behind a bike, I take a moment to watch how it is being ridden. If the rider is not using the 'system' they will not be plod. Certain cars always get the once over as well.

As far as I'm concerned this is a preferable method of enforcement than a van hidden in the trees. At least if you keep your wits about you and pick and choose your places to loon about, you've got a chance

 :i_agree

At least if you do get pulled for something you can speak with a human being and have a chance.. :scratch

The way the camera vans operate is a disgrace IMHO..nothing to do with Safety at all..pure revenue generation!

Even WE detest them, they have done more to turn People against the Old Bill than everything else combined...... :censored
