Biker pulled
« on: March 14, 2011, 07:42:56 AM »
Yet another unmarked pig car ( A burgandy Volvo Est. Reg ended CTY ) in Llandovery yesterday, he had pulled a bike in near the level crossing.  :handjob
Looks very much like this is going to be the norm this year  :thumb_down

I was in Derbyshire recently & saw a road sign warning that helicopters were being used to record speeders.
Have fun on your bike but obey limits, or otherwise hone your observational skills to superhuman degrees.

By the way the lady who runs a speed awareness course will be guest speaker soon at our local IAM meeting.

Thats 15th March at Carmarthen RAFA or Gremlin club if you want to come along about 7.00 pm.

They were out in force just before Xmas pulling bikers for a general bike check. Ticketing people for anything they could. Bollox!! Feck all to do with safety and just a money making scam.

I'm sure that on safety grounds they shouldnt be hiding behind trees and just jumping out into the road. If the Police made themselves more visible and became more 'Pro Active' with respect to road safety and less intent on just using Police authority to make money (scam vans, helicopters etc) then we would give them a bit more respect.

Motorcyclists are now just getting victimised. Maybe we should start wearing turbuns over our helmets or full length burkas. When we get pulled we can use the race card then :handjob

Where the f*ck was plod last week when there was a tosser who'd stopped in the fast lane of the M4 to change a wheel  and what about using a mobile phone whilst driving, I see loads every day, no it's always down to speed and as a biker you need eyes in the back of your head just to avoid the assholes who say "I,m sorry i didn't see you !" where is plod then ? :taz

Here's a history lesson for you:

Back in about 1990 the government created a target of reducing road casualties by something like (I'm old now, my mind is going) 80% by the year 2000. This huge reduction in casualties was achieved despite large increases in traffic.

They did this by aggressively targetting speed reduction (hence cameras), and specifically motocyclists which were seen as deliberately foiling the whole project by the Darwin method.

Other sides of the project were engineering (traffic calming, airbags), and education (bikesafe, speed awareness).

Anyway, bikers were just about legislated off the road by driving test changes (DAS, CBT). If they could get bikers off the road altogether, the gubment would be very happy. New Years Honours everyone?

One unforseen side-effect of making bikers pass a more difficult test was that all bikers, erm, passed their test. They then went and bought Gixxers instead of grinding on for ever on their scooters..

The reason we have Police stopping bikes endlessly in Brecon is because of fatalities in that area. You won't find them down the Gower because they haven't had issues down there to the same extent. Another reason is because officers have 'performance indicators', in other words they get slung off the Traffic and made to walk in the rain if they haven't booked enough.

So if you decide not to go to Abergavenny or Brecon on Sunday, the WAG will be very pleased (no fatalities for a change) and the Police will be pissed off (he'll be walking next week).   :no

Everyone likes to see a speed camera. If it's outside their house.

This whole issue's been covered a million times before here on WB's... I think Valley Gizzer's got the general consensus about right here.

Unfortunately, until we (a) unite as bikers nationally and plan a constructive approach to tackling the issues and (b) the UK walks away from the EU (about fuc*ing time that happened, too - you want to see what's currently in the pipeline for modified bikes as part of a revised 'super MOT'), nothing will change and the situ will worsen further.

Happy days!  :thumb_down

*Modifications... as in ANYTHING non-standard: custom builds, after market exhausts, alterations to indicators and minor aesthetics - ultimately 'sealed' engine units and manufacturer only specification... aka THE END OF BIKING! Check it out - it's happening NOW!

I agree to an extent, and I also appreciate I haven't been here very long and nothing I say will change the opinions held by many.

If you want to avoid further persecution there are some things you can do:
1. Don't irritate the hell out of people. So, quiet(ish) cans, no wheelies in town, no screaming past houses in built up areas while folks are trying to kip after Sunday lunch. Keep the fun & games to rural and mountain areas, we've got plenty of them.

2. Try not to kill yourself. It upsets the statistitions.

3. Try to give the impression of legality. Other people drive vehicles with legible plates, they understand perfectly well why your bike has a tiny plate mounted horizontally - so you can drive like a knob without getting caught. :nono

Have I converted anyone yet? Possibly not - but the guy with the telephone number of the chief constable is the local mayor  :handjob who you've just carved up again. So don't complain when the force is out in force on the 470.
