If your travelling on the M4....just stick to 55mph.
The law allows for 10%  :thumbsup
no the LAW does not allow 10%, the speed limit is an absolute law ie no leway above ,the police can  use discretion and generally use 10% +2 which is the apco guidelines , where the 10% comes in is in relation to the speedometer which can be optomistic by that amount but which can never read lower that the actual speed at which you are travelling,

:zzz  :zzz  So theres a 10% le-way to allow for the speedo.......? Maybe the law doesnt "allow" the extra 10%...but its a given factor seeing as i and many others i know havnt recieved tickets....any idea why that would be? Maybe....its cos CAMERA'S ALLOW 10% also?   :zzz  Hense why its in the apco guidelines.

The police may use discretion....but these average speed camera's dont have a copper stood behind each one so i think the point of "police using discretion" is invalid. As these camera DO ALLOW for 10% extra.
She never moans when i ride her to hard....doesnt shout when i drag her through the shit! keeps me warm on cold nights out....gives me a tingle in my balls on warm summer days...but most of all she treats me right! Dear wife....youve been replaced by the bike!

Your statement was the Law allows 10%, my statement was it does not, the Law is absolute as far as limits are concerned .
Now  as far as Cameras set higher that the speed limit now let me think? Who operates and sets the limit for the cameras oh yes it’s the local Police force and different forces have different policies some will allow 10% some will not, North Wales is changing now but at one time under Brunstrom bikers were being pulled for speeds not in excess of the 10%, at one time in Cardiff the cameras were set for 38mph in a 30
which is discretion as far as i can see shown by the local force ,if they want to the cameras can be set at 1 mph above the posted limit

Is the below any good towards your "discussion"

BARELY a quarter of drivers caught exceeding the speed limit on controversial new 50mph zone on the M4 have been fined, the Western Mail has learned.

Since October, more than 16.5million vehicles have negotiated speed check cameras between junction 24 at Newport and junction 29 for Cardiff.

But Gwent Police revealed just 2,031 speeding offences were recorded in those six months – partly because drivers can clock 56mph without being prosecuted, or can slow down in between cameras to bring their average speed down.

And of those, just 524 had been issued with fines – equivalent to around three a day.

A Gwent Police spokesperson told us: “Current prosecution guidelines state that an allowance is given for the Association of Chief Police Officers to prosecute when exceeding the limit by 10% + 2. This is to allow for manufacturing differences in vehicle speedometers.”

the LAW  is quite clear the speed limit is just that , however the  police  can and do apply the acpo guide lines( as stated by nero) ,but they can and will be within the letter of the law to prosecute for 1mph above the posted limit  , so there is no contradiction in my statement ,it is local discretion

Tis true.... i have points   to prove it  :taz  :taz (33 in a 30 mph and was 2300 at night  :banghead  :censored ) ... totally at the discretion of which ever police force area it is....
as proved in the above post
my point was There is a difference between the Law which is Black and White and made by the Government and the application of some of those laws by the Police.
however i see no useful purpose in continuing this so this will be my last post on this subject .

Then spent about 2 feccing years making it wider to improve traffic flow.......great I thought then as they finish it the cops slap a 50mph all the way down it as commuters cannot drive along the Malpas straight THE STRAIGHT BIT  without crashing !!

I think they should bin them.

As i said in my original statement really isnt it......
"But Gwent Police revealed just 2,031 speeding offences were recorded in those six months – partly because drivers can clock 56mph without being prosecuted"

Your starting to get on my tits abit now as your going very far off topic from what my original "statement" was. "If your travelling on the M4....just stick to 55mph.
The law allows for 10% "

They may not allow 10% everywhere...But they are on the M4.

:i_agree

Its the same on the A470 by Tongwnlais heading towards Cardiff from Caerphilly. Spent loads improving the road and then lowered the limit to 50. Its pointless, as someone mentioned earlier with the M4, the speeds never tend to get over 50 because its busy and then on the weekends or in the evening when there are no cars you still have to do 50! Crazy world we live in!! :scratch
