average speed cams
« on: January 20, 2011, 02:27:11 PM »
I can, to a degree, understand why average speed cams could work on some stretches of road. maybe if it's a particularly dangerous stretch of road - ie coldra to tredegar park on the M4. there's been hundreds of accidents along this stretch of road over the years, and the cams seem to be reducing this slightly. And for that reason, although not a fan, i can understand. I can also understand the theory of trying to control congestion although this never seems to work.

BUT

i cannot understand why the fcuk they would install average speed cameras along the M49 from the new second crossing to avonmouth bridge. What a pain in the arse!! in 10 years of commuting along this road i honestly cant remember seeing an accident!! the only time theres ever more than 8 cars on this stretch is if the M5 is blocked. so why why why put cameras along here? how cocking irritating!!

WTF? when did they go up then???

Agree with you - I've never seen an accident or even congestion on that road (since it stopped being M4)

Clearly a blatant cash cow  :handjob :handjob :handjob

Same here, I had no idea... that used to be a nice stretch of road too... never saw an accident either.

What a complete piss take AGAIN!

Guess it's time for the velcro number plate to get an airing!

Because its such a quiet, unmanned piece of road, you can easilly exceed the speed limit and make up for time lost in the 50 zone through Newport. The money hungry powers that be obviously saw an opportunity! :thumb_down

Am I right in thinking that the cameras are forward facing so your fine on a bike?

you're right, they don't pick you up on the bike - not the point though!

they have another 8 weeks of work left before they finish them apparently!

I'm sure this time last year there was a section of the M4 near Reading that was covered by average cams too, but has since vanished. what a chuffin waste of money that was too!  :banghead

Its just because the M49 is a quiet stretch that nearly everybody that uses it, bikes, cars, vans give it serious welly.  I am surprisesd that plod havent used moblie camera units on a regular basis, I am sure they would come up with interesting speeds :wheelchair

I guess the next strech for the cameras will be the road to the old 7 bridge, thats a seriously fast bit of road and I have yet to see a Rozzer on it.

Im usually in my car down the M48 there so ill keep an eye out Ta.
