Yamaha YZF R125 '09
« on: June 22, 2010, 11:15:21 PM »
So I'll start this by saying that I've never really ridden any other bikes so I can't draw comparisons...

I've been riding the YZF since April. So far I've gotta say that I've loved every second of it! She handles really well, can stick quite tight around corners.
Quite easy to jump on and off of as it is a 125 so a bit smaller than bigger engined bikes.

I weigh about 11st 2lbs and have managed to get 80MPH out of it... down hill with a long run up. I don't think it;ll go any faster to be honest. Getting up to 45ish MPH is quick and easy, if you wanna get to the top end quickly then you're gonna need to start taking it to the red.  Filtering is a doddle.. nice and easy!

All in all it's a great bike! Too many times I've parked up in front of a shop, come out and seen a crap load of people around her. I loves it!! :thumbsup

My wife has an 07 CBR 125 Repsol, its only done 800 miles and is like brand new. Its a lovely bike for her, the right size and pretty looking too. :nails

But I must be honest, the YZF is a far better bike all round, the style and look of it for a 125 is top notch, but the only down side is its about 1K more to buy than the CBR.

Look after it and I'm sure it will serve you well, plus you should get back most of the extra buying price at the other end.... :tup2

Hi Claire,

Cant comment on the Yam, but....

I had a cbr 125 last year to learn on.  All I can say is brilliant bike nibble, forgiving with mistakes, excellent on fuel, cheap economical good looking.  But ouch on insurance because it's a superbike replica  :scratch

Cost me £320 with MCE full comp, and the policy was non transferable.  So when you pass your test you loose all the no claims you build up (because it was a learner policy).

My father-in-law doing his test again at 64! has a honda CG 125 cheap to insure £160 full comp for both of us.  good on fuel no fairing but just as easy to ride (they use them in the training schools).

At the end of the day consider how long your going to be learning, before you do your test.  What your going to be using it for, commuting whilst learning or just fun runs.

Also dont buy one new, in the first year I lost a grand on the CBR.  Father-in-law bought a CG on an '04 for £800 and has been offered £900 on part ex!  :scratch

Depends on what you want, in short the cbr in my opion and the yam turn heads.  But the CG will be cheap hold it's money whilst you learn and get you experience and through your test.

But that's just my view, hope this helps.....

What?!
When I passed my test I kept all my no claims bonus, doesn't matter if you gained them as a learner...
