Vfr800i or cbr600f?
« on: December 07, 2011, 11:56:37 PM »
Hello!
Just passed my direct access and would value any opinions on the following 2bikes please. Honda vfr800i (non vtec) or Honda cbr600f (2004 ish).

I would like a bike that's gonna put a smile on my face but also comfortable enough to put some miles in, maybe even some touring.
Super sports not for me, look awesome but riding position not for me.

Thanks,Paul  :thumb_up

Well done on passing DAS Paul, I'll tell you what everyone else will tell you and that's ride them both and make a decision from there. Both are proven bikes and neither have major issues so can't go far wrong with either of them. I bought a Y reg ZX6 as a play thing and I can ride that for almost as long as I can ride my upright Bandit, I guess it helps as it's an older bike it's a bit less focussed.

Good luck with whichever way you go  :thumbsup

Thanks guys  :clap

Yeah I know you`re right, time for some test rides then! Out of curiosity, as a new rider is it just a case of booking a test ride and away you go or is it a bit more involved, deposits etc, seeing as I`m inexperienced surely I couldn`t just try out a fireblade or something?!

My wife bought a cbr600f after passing her test, i did many miles on that bike and it was great, went well if you caned it, was really comfy too
She ended up changing it for a naked bike due to back/knee probs

VFR said to be the best sports tourer there is.

Test rides. First book one, take your bike kit obviously but also your licence. Next prepare for a shock when you are asked to fill in a form stating YOU will pay the first £1000 of any damage you may sustain during the ride.

Not quite like a car test ride is it.

Get yourself down to Smiths & read or even buy something like What Bike or similar. Online ,Motorcycle News website has lots on reviews on all categories of bikes.
Find out what sort of bike you want e.g. adventure, sport, cruiser etc etc. Look at build quality, chain or shaft drive, insurance , values.
Take your time, get the best you can afford but leave some money for good kit for yourself.
Finally, when you see the bike you fancy, take someone with you who knows about bike mechanicals, & walk away from anything that is not perfect.

Thanks everyone for your advice ;-)
However...I've kind of fallen for a cbr600rr which I didn't expect because although I love the way they look, I have been put off by the comfort factor (or lack of it).
Does anyone have any views on whether you can actually cover some decent miles fairly comfortably on a cbr?

I hate myself for being swayed by looks alone lol!

Thanks ;-)

Yes, everyone else maybe melting to death on the roads but not us! Because we have a car with hair conditioner! I mean what in the name of sanity did they think we want it for? To make sure that the roof rack is more shiny and managable?

A cracking bike,  a big difference in grin factor between that and the F.   Less comfort but the fun differences will more than make up for that.   :thumbsup

Thats what i had as a first bike, was great at first but the more i rode it the more i realised it was too small for me, had the same prob when i test rode a blade, feels like its 8/10 scale, other than that it was a cracking bike, put a micron can on it and did 4k in 5 months on it

Cbr600f Rossi replica was my first bike. Loved the thing to bits, mega easy do ride. Get the 600 if the position is no good you can always change it !
