Harley 883 Iron
« on: January 29, 2012, 10:54:55 PM »
Really low bike, which would be perfect for me, but suspension is apparently a bit naff.

Any thoughts??

Nearest dealer is Bristol or Cheltenham, which is a bit of a pain, so if you see one please let me know.  I'd love to sit on one....just to see!

Have you looked at the older SV650s? I thought in your post about short motorbikes you mentioned you didn't like the cruiser look too much.

The older SV650 has one of the lowest stock seat heights according to the blurb I read the other day.

Don't forget that even bikes that may be too tall for you can be lowered with a kit.

It's a matter of what you are comfortable with  :thumbsup

Thanks!

I don't mind cruisers but I don't like the forward position of the pedals. Looks like the 883 is mid way

I'm with you on that, can't get used to foot boards and the odd angle of your arms on a cruiser.

I've seen pictures of the XJ6s with a lowering link fitted, seemed to really reduce the height. Might be worth looking around at easily modified bikes and just costing it in.

Hi Red Raven,

The Sportsters are nice and low and not all have the pedals in the forward position.  There's some nice looking ones on that link.

I know someone who has just passed his test and bought one.  I'm sure he'd let you have a sit on it if you wanted.

He is based in Cardiff and Newport.

You've just got to test ride everything that you can get your hands on (or leg over) and spend a bit of time on it to make sure it's right for you.

Good luck with it, and happy shopping.

Thanks for that!  Would you mind dropping him my e-mail address?  Would be good to have his take on the bike:  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I'm hoping to go and have a sit on Shazza's Harley Sportster too!!

Anyone got any thoughts on the 33bhp restrictor kit??  Sounds too good to be true....?

They work, but,
Why do want it restricted ?  :scratch

No point if you don't have to?  :nails
You can't learn on a restricted bike .... (from a law point of view, not a practical one)

I don't think you can .. ( I am probably wrong )  you learn on an unresticted large bike .. with an accompanying instructor ..what would be the point in learning on a restricted bike ... you might as well be on a 125 .... I learnt on and unresticted bike ..cant see the point of going down the restricted route if you don't have to .  :scratch  :thumb_up
And if you can do it via DAS .. you might just as well..especialy with the uncertainty over the test and licence changes  :thumbsup

Goo luck whichever you do  :thumbsup  :thumbsup heres to a safe life on two wheels  :thumb_up  :thumb_up
