Jumping text
« on: April 30, 2010, 10:28:07 AM »
Sorry if this sounds weird and does look to be an issue with my machine and IE (IE8 - version: 8.0.6001.18702), but I'm stuck at how to fix it and wondered if you have come accross this before...

the issue is when I type in a long(ish) forumn message or a reply, the message jumps to the top and I can never seem to see/read what I'm typing at the bottom. I have to use the scroll bars to see what I just typed.

It seems fine on Firefox, so think it must be an IE setting, but god knows what it is... no worries if you've never come accross this, just its starting to annoy me now ... bloody Microsoft!

Same thing happens with mine, makes it really difficult to write longish posts.

Your right Stuey it's a IE issue

What helps is when you click on the posting page click the compatabilty button (top of page looks like ripped page)

That seems to stop it :thumbsup

 :old   something else you can try, if you hover your mouse at the bottom edge of the posting box it turns into a double arrow, click, hold and drag down and you make the box as big as you like, problem solved     :thumbsup

I have updated i.e 8,but find the jumping is still there,therefore i have downloaded OPERA browser and that seams to work fine,my verdict on Opera,very,very fast,with speed dial page,gets you to your favourites fast,also there is the added OPERA Turbo,which sits on your tool bar,and with one click your in Warp drive,awesome browser.

Thanks for the tip Stig............Oh do you like my Avatar??????????? :thumbsup :thumbsup

It's down to IE8 not liking percentage values for width and height of a text box.

In particular on this page it is here:

Quote
<textarea class="editor" name="message" id="message" rows="12" cols="60"
onselect="storeCaret(this);" onclick="storeCaret(this);" onkeyup="storeCaret(this);"
onchange="storeCaret(this);" tabindex="2"
style="max-width: 100%; min-width: 100%; height: 175px;"></textarea>

If you instead specify a pixel value it should work just fine.
