Staying alive forum
« on: May 24, 2011, 08:38:18 AM »
Some time ago I asked for a forum heading " staying alive ".
I wrote some articles which elicited enough responses to show that safer riding was of interest to many Welsh Bikers. Not surprisingly it also showed that many Welsh Bikers knew far more about the subject than I do & I learnt some things from them.
I posted so many articles that Pope thought that safety issues were getting aired too much & penned that excellent article " why do you ride " which is still going strong.
I have to agree with him that safety is never why we all ride. Riding is many things ( mostly wonderful ) but certainly not safe.
To me safety is gained from a willingness to learn, to admit to yourself that you could always do better, to getting miles under your belt, to scaring yourself a little, to learning the rules of the road & increasing your limits.
I am concerned that many bikers ,who we all see every day , do not know the rules so are unaware they are breaking them.

I think there should be a ' Staying Alive " forum topic on Welsh Bikers as an useful place for those that want to learn to refer & for those that want to contribute.
Stig has asked that I write a series of articles on safety & I will get round to it but.......
I do want him to set up a new forum heading
I think that other, more knowledgable people will contribute
All safety topics will be in one place & easily found

There have been some excellent articles on safety & the videos are splendid learning tools.

Stig, over to you.

I think it's a good idea.

It may encourage new members as well.
It'll enforce the idea that the site caters for all skill levels, bike sizes and riding habits, and who knows, we all may learn something.

Staying Alive does grab attention.
Safer riding , peeps may find a little boring.
Advanced riding may look pretentious
Riding Skills , for those who want to learn
